Konkuk Univ. café for chatting: tangerine ade & tiramisu, Café Ohkam
In short
Café Ohkam is a converted-house café tucked into an alley at the start of the eating street off the main road by Konkuk Univ. Station in Gwangjin, Seoul, with the whole building split into floors. On a summer day the writer stopped by to work and rest, ordering an iced americano, tangerine ade and tiramisu, but Café Ohkam was crowded and noisy, so it suited chatting better than working. Verdict: Café Ohkam is a Konkuk Univ. Station café for relaxed time with friends, and the trick is to grab a seat before you order.

A café that's good for passing the time
You know those days when you have an awkward bit of time to fill? It's hot outside, walking around is exhausting, and the first thing that comes to mind is a café. I had some work to do but also wanted a little rest and recharge, so I went to Café Ohkam (카페 오캄) near Konkuk Univ. Station :) Having been, I'd say it's comfortable for spending time and has a lively atmosphere, so not bad at all.

Where is Café Ohkam near Konkuk Univ. Station?
Café Ohkam is at 117-23 Dongil-ro 22-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, inside an alley at the start of the eating street off the Konkuk Univ. Station main street. You have to turn in a bit from the big road, so I'd suggest using a map the first time.
The alley is narrow, so getting in by car is a little inconvenient. Coming on foot is much easier.

From outside, Café Ohkam looks like a converted-house café, and it uses the whole building. Even from the street it looked pretty crowded.

I walked in a little worried there wouldn't be any seats.

Café Ohkam is also famous these days for its mango bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and lots of tables had people eating it.
Café Ohkam floor layout and tips for getting a seat

Here's how the inside of Café Ohkam is laid out by floor!
- 2F - desk and hall
- 3F - seating
- 4F - rooftop

Maybe because it's summer, the air-conditioned 2nd and 3rd floors were the most crowded,

and the rooftop was completely empty. (Understandable...)

Here's one tip! At Café Ohkam, always get a seat first and order afterward. If you order first, there may be no seats left.
Is Café Ohkam a good café for studying or working?

The vibe at Café Ohkam is more a café for chatting than a quiet one. It's a bit noisy overall, so honestly I wouldn't recommend it for studying or working.
Café Ohkam menu and price range

The menu at Café Ohkam is similar to a typical café. Nothing especially standout, just a safe lineup. Prices are reasonable too.

That said, the fresh mango bingsu is clearly the popular item. You can assume nearly every table had one!
How do Café Ohkam's tiramisu, iced americano and tangerine ade taste?

At Café Ohkam that day I ordered an iced americano, a tangerine ade and a tiramisu.
Tiramisu: soft and airy, mind the cocoa powder

The tiramisu at Café Ohkam is the fluffy type.

There's a lot of powder on top, so be careful with your first bite. Eat it wrong and you'll cough :)

It goes well with coffee and is just right for two people to share.
Iced americano: low acidity, clean finish

The iced americano at Café Ohkam is a cold, clean-tasting style.

The acidity isn't strong, so it's easy to drink. It also pairs nicely with dessert.
Tangerine ade: a bit short of expectations

Honestly, the tangerine ade at Café Ohkam was a little disappointing, maybe because I'd built up high expectations.

You can taste the tangerine, but it's exactly the flavor you'd predict: like tangerine syrup plus fizz, nothing special.

Still, it's cold and does the basics, so I'm thinking of trying it once more next time!
Who is Café Ohkam near Konkuk Univ. right for?
Café Ohkam is less a quiet café and more a place to relax and chat. With so many people it has a lively atmosphere, which was good for coming with friends or just taking a light break.
And do try the mango bingsu. I'm a little sad I didn't get to eat it :) If you're looking for a café near Konkuk Univ., it's worth a visit at least once!
