On this trip to Jeju, I went to Dongmun Market to pick out gifts for friends and family. Most people who come to Jeju end up buying tangerines or chocolate as souvenirs. This time I wanted something a bit different, so I spent a lot of time thinking it over.

Once I actually got to Dongmun Market, there were way more kinds of gifts than I expected. That's when Cheongchuni Oranda caught my eye. At first I wasn't sure if oranda (a crisp Korean rice snack) would make a good gift, but tasting it in person completely changed my mind. Today I'm sharing an honest review of the donut oranda I packed and brought home myself.

Where is Cheongchuni Oranda in Dongmun Market, and where do you park?

Cheongchuni Oranda is located toward the night market side of Dongmun Market in Jeju. The address is 6-8 Dongmun-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, and even first-time visitors to Dongmun Market shouldn't have much trouble finding it.

Head toward the night market and you'll pass shops selling raw fish; walk just a bit further inside and the orange sign comes into view quickly. I thought it would be hard to find, but I actually spotted it faster than expected.

A lot of people worry about parking, but using the lot near the night market made visiting by car not much of a hassle. There's a ton of food and things to see inside Dongmun Market. Since it gets really crowded though, I'd recommend stopping by the shop you want first, then browsing the rest of the market slowly.

Tasting flavors in the shop before picking the donut oranda

The moment I walked into Cheongchuni Oranda, what I liked most was how friendly the staff were. They explained the differences between each product really thoroughly, one by one.

Besides donut oranda, there were all sorts of other oranda and snacks on display, but the donut oranda was still the first thing that caught my eye.

They were cute in shape and really looked like great gifts. What I liked most, though, was that samples were available.

Being able to taste each flavor and pick what I actually liked made buying gifts feel risk-free. I tried several flavors one by one before deciding, and once I did, I immediately understood why so many people buy them.

In the end I bought a 6-piece donut oranda gift set along with 5 other products, and had it all packed up generously. The staff wrapped everything carefully, which made it feel even more gift-ready.

As soon as I got home, I tried the product I'd packed first. I couldn't remember the name for a moment, but it was a mixed-flavor assortment, and the light, nutty taste really stood out. It wasn't overly sweet, so I think older family members would really enjoy it, and it went better with warm tea than with coffee.

I thought it would also make a nice gift for parents or older relatives. The gift set itself was already neatly packaged, so I didn't need to repackage it, and I think whoever receives it would be quite satisfied.

The donut oranda comes individually wrapped. It's hygienic and easy to share, which actually made it feel even better suited as a gift.

What does the chocolate donut oranda taste like?

I tried the chocolate flavor of Cheongchuni Oranda's donut oranda first. At first glance it really looked like an actual donut, but one bite in, the signature crisp oranda texture was still fully there.

The donut shape made it fun to look at, and with chocolate topping on top, it looked really cute too. Being oranda, it has a certain firmness to the bite, but the more you chew, the more that nutty flavor comes through, and I kept reaching for more.

With chocolate on top I expected it to be quite sweet, but it was less sweet than I thought, and I think kids would enjoy it plenty too. It paired really well with a drink, and the size was just right for a one-piece snack.

These days, a slightly special, different gift like this seems to leave more of an impression than the usual Jeju souvenirs. I think I'd buy this again next time I'm in Jeju.

Is donut oranda worth buying as a Jeju souvenir?

If you visit Jeju, you'll probably rack your brain over gifts at some point, and if you're after something a bit different from the usual tangerines or chocolate, Cheongchuni Oranda is a good option.

The flavor works for kids and adults alike without being too much, and the individual wrapping made gifting easy. Above all, tasting it myself confirmed the flavor was satisfying, and being able to buy after sampling was a real plus.
