In short
Raicho is a French toast café in an alley off Jeongdeun-ro 1-gil in Ido 2-dong, Jeju City, Jeju. At Raicho the signature Shome PT French toast costs 8,000 won and the con panna 5,000 won, and the brioche loaf is aged through to the center so the outside chews like brûlée while the inside stays soft. Raicho, a Jeju French toast favorite
I'd been wanting to come here forever.. I bookmarked it the moment it opened and only just now made it in ㅠㅠ I wanted French toast so badly.....
Where is Raicho, and what are its hours and parking?
Raicho is on the 1st floor of 8 Jeongdeun-ro 1-gil, Jeju-si, in the back alley across from the Small Business Agency and the big street by Byeori Naerineun Sup. It's a back alley, but parking is possible!
Raicho's hours are 9:30 to 17:30. Regularly closed every Sunday.

Why the name Raicho? Japanese for ptarmigan (雷鳥)
Grab a sticker! This character... Raicho? That's not Korean....!? Wait, is it Japanese!?? 雷鳥 (ptarmigan)??!
Just in case, I asked, and yep, it's ptarmigan.

Apparently the coffee is good too?

How many seats does Raicho have?
There were more seats than I expected. On the right of the entrance are three 2-seat tables. Pushed together, they work for groups too. Group reservations are possible, though it's best to call ahead!

I kept wondering where the music was coming from!??! Turns out it was this speaker!

Three 2-seat tables and, by the window.... 7 chairs!

Con panna, 5,000 won: Raicho's signature coffee
Right after I sat down, the owner brought it out personally.

Ah... I had to snap a photo fast because of the cream ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Con panna (₩5,000). My usual go-tos are milk tea or refreshing ades, but... I heard the French toast here pairs really well with coffee, haha, so if coffee, then espresso-based!

Plus con panna is on Raicho's signature menu, so I had to order it!

The coffee is really strong!!! Totally nutty beans!

Shome PT French toast, 8,000 won: what does it taste like?
Shome PT French toast (₩8,000). Made with brioche bread aged through to the center, with a brûlée-like crust — a French toast full of buttery flavor and sweetness!! On the menu it just said #ShomePT, and I know PT for French toast, but... Shome? The café's name is SHOMER RAICHO, so I guess that's where it comes from?
Ah, it's big? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I ordered the plainest version to eat light, but ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ even without fruit or ice cream, the portion is huge ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Go plain your first time!!! And branch out from there next time!
I cut it in half, and oh, this is kind of unique.
Every French toast I've had so far has been just soft.... this one has a slightly firm(?) crust texture on the outside, so it wasn't uniformly soft throughout.
I actually like firm bread, so I loved this kind of French toast — you get two textures in one!!
The middle was totally soft while the outside had a nice chewy bite? Best of both worlds? ㅋㅋ
A Jeju City café that works for a solo visit
Raicho, a Jeju City café near the Jeju Library. A place I really wanted to visit as a famous Jeju French toast spot!! It's in a quiet alley, so I could sit down comfortably even alone, and the vibe was great too!! Next time I need to try a different French toast!
