Korean restaurant in Oryu-dong, Daejeon: abalone galbitang at Idobonga
In short
Idobonga (이도본가) is a Korean galbi (short rib) restaurant in Oryu-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, near Seodaejeon Station. At Idobonga the writer ordered abalone galbitang (short rib soup) topped with 2 abalones, yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and seafood doenjang (soybean paste) stew with blue crab, tasting a broth the restaurant says is simmered fresh every day alongside the side dishes, and parking in the building's basement lot was free for up to 3 hours. Idobonga is a good stop on a chilly day when you crave hot soup and home-style Korean food.

Idobonga (이도본가) is a Korean restaurant in Oryu-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, close to Seodaejeon Station, with a menu running from galbitang (short rib soup) to galbijjim (braised short ribs) and beef hot pot. I went for a hearty, satisfying meal. 👐 They serve proper Korean food with a deep broth simmered every day and honest ingredients, so it's a great place when you want a filling meal.
It's close to Seodaejeon Station, so it's easy to reach, and the dedicated parking lot inside the building was really convenient. Here's my review of Idobonga, a galbi Korean restaurant in Daejeon for those days when you crave a solid meal.

Where is Idobonga's parking, and is it free for how long?
Idobonga has a dedicated lot on basement level 1 (B1) of the building, and parking is free for up to 3 hours when you dine in. If you're coming by car, parking info matters, right? Getting here by car was easy.
Coming from the Seodaejeon intersection
Turn right past Samsung Digital Plaza and go about 200 m. When you see Seodaejeon Station and Sky Palace, move into the first lane and make a U-turn, then turn right right after Attimong, and you can enter the underground lot.
Coming from the Costco direction
Pass Costco and turn right past Attimong on the building's first floor to enter the underground lot. Checking the location on your navigation before you head over makes it even easier.
What is the atmosphere inside Idobonga like?
The inside is clean and modern, with soft lighting, light-colored tables and comfortable chairs, so it's easy to relax over a meal. It's near Seodaejeon Station, so it also works if you're traveling by public transport or looking for somewhere to eat nearby.
I also liked that the big windows let you see the view outside. In the evening, the city lights outside add a bit of a city-view mood. It's good for eating alone, with friends or a partner, and I'd also recommend it for a family meal out. With its tidy atmosphere and warm Korean food, it's a place I'd introduce to anyone looking for a galbi Korean restaurant in Oryu-dong.

There's also a self-serve coffee corner and a self-serve charging corner.

They're also running a review event. You get ice cream for registering a Naver review: 2 for a photo review, 1 for a regular review.

What did I order at Idobonga?
At Idobonga I ordered abalone galbitang, yukhoe bibimbap and seafood doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). I got a bit of everything: a hearty soup, a bibimbap topped with fresh yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), and a rich doenjang stew. The menu is so varied that you can pick by taste, and it's easy for everyone in your group to choose something different.

Along with the meal, you get cold cucumber soup, kimchi and seokbakji (radish kimchi) as basic side dishes. In Korean food it's not only the main dish, it's how the side dishes go with the rice, right? They paired nicely with the mains and tasted good.

How does Idobonga's abalone galbitang with 2 abalones taste?
The abalone galbitang comes in a bubbling hot ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), with 2 abalones on top of the chopped scallions, a bowl that looks hearty just by sight. The generous scallions on the broth looked appetizing too.

Idobonga says it uses broth simmered fresh every day. Since broth is what matters in galbitang, I had high hopes for its depth, and sure enough, the hot broth was rich and savory, with a deep meaty flavor that was the real kicker. It's a Korean dish that favors the natural taste of the ingredients and the depth of the broth over anything harsh.
With the generous ribs that galbitang can't do without, plus chewy abalone, it was filling and great as a restorative dish. On a chilly day like these, I put a bowl of rice into the hot galbitang and finished it in no time. It's just perfect. If you're looking for a galbi Korean restaurant in Daejeon, a bowl of galbitang at Idobonga makes a solid meal.

What does Idobonga's yukhoe bibimbap look like?
Idobonga's yukhoe bibimbap comes in a large brass bowl with rice and colorful toppings neatly arranged. With so many ingredients together, the colors were really pretty.

Plenty of fresh yukhoe sits in the middle, and with the spicy sauce it looks appetite-stirring. What I like about bibimbap is that you can mix lots of ingredients evenly. Mix the sauce, rice, vegetables and yukhoe together and each ingredient comes together into a rich flavor. If you love yukhoe bibimbap, I think you'll definitely be satisfied.
How does Idobonga's seafood doenjang stew with crab taste?
The seafood doenjang stew arrives bubbling in a ttukbaegi, with tofu, vegetables and seafood together, a dish that's great with rice. True to being a staple of the Korean table, it looks savory just to look at.

The savory depth of doenjang plus the cool, fresh taste from the blue crab makes the broth fantastic. It also went well with the yukhoe bibimbap I ordered on the side. It's a home-style dish I'd recommend when you want a savory, slightly spicy soup. On days when you want familiar, comforting Korean food rather than anything special, it makes a hearty meal.
What kind of day is Idobonga good for?
Idobonga, a Korean restaurant near Seodaejeon Station, serves galbitang and a variety of Korean dishes built on broth simmered fresh every day, so it's a good place when you want a filling meal. With a clean, modern interior and free parking in the building, it suits everything from solo meals to family dinners and group gatherings. It's a comfortable place to drop in on days when you crave warm soup and home-style food. 🙌
