Roomy shaved pork BBQ for group dinners in Daejeon: Kkodeul Daepae

I suddenly wanted shaved pork belly (daepae samgyeopsal) so badly that I searched around and ended up at Kkodeul Daepae (꼬들대패) in Wolpyeong-dong, Daejeon. The meat quality was better than I expected and the place was big, so I left very happy!

Kkodeul Daepae Daejeon Wolpyeong Branch (꼬들대패 대전월평점) is at 14 Wolpyeongjung-ro, 1st floor, Seo-gu, Daejeon, and its red accent sign makes it easy to spot from far away. The big sign outside caught my eye as soon as I arrived. It was evening, and it fit right in with the surroundings. There is also a large menu board at the entrance, so you can check prices and dishes before going in.

The menu board in front of the shop had quite a variety, from shaved pork belly to side dishes. Meat prices are scary at a lot of places these days, but the prices here seemed reasonable, so ordering a few different things looked fine.

Is Kkodeul Daepae Wolpyeong spacious enough for a group dinner?

The restaurant is much bigger than I expected, and the tables are spaced out comfortably, so I thought it would work fine for a group meal or company dinner (hoesik). It never felt cramped and was kept clean overall. The lighting wasn't too dim either, so the mood was relaxed. It seems like a lot of families come here too :)

There were posters about the meat and the menu on the walls, and they suited the atmosphere. The ventilation was especially good, so I barely felt that stuffy feeling BBQ restaurants usually have. The restroom is inside the restaurant too, which was convenient!

How do you order, and what does the self-serve bar cost?

Heads up: Kkodeul Daepae Wolpyeong charges ₩3,000 per table for the self-serve bar! One wall also has a big menu written out, neatly organized so you can take it in at a glance. Prices are easy to see, which made deciding what to order easier.

You order on the kiosk screen at each table, and the first order has to be at least 500g :) It was handy not having to keep calling over staff, and the menu photos on screen made ordering easy.

Basic side dishes and the self-serve bar

The basic side dishes came out right away: seasoned bean sprouts, scallion salad (pa-chae), pickles and more, all good with meat. They all go so well with pork that I was already excited before grilling anything.🥹

The self-serve bar was kept tidy too. There was a good variety of vegetables, and you can grab more of any side dish that runs out, which I liked.

How were the shaved pork belly and cold noodles?

The shaved pork belly came piled up like a mountain of thin slices, so the portion looked generous and the meat looked fresh! The moment I saw it I said "wow." I had the cold noodles (naengmyeon) too, but I dug in right away so there's no photo, sorry! ㅠㅠ They were really tasty and went so well with the meat that I highly recommend them‼️

The best thing about shaved pork belly is that it cooks fast, so you get to eat quickly, haha. They grilled mushrooms and garlic alongside it too, which made the spread look even fuller. Watching the meat turn golden brown, my chopsticks just kept going.

Well-cooked shaved pork was great with scallion salad, great wrapped in lettuce, and great on its own‼️ Because it's thin, it went down easily without feeling heavy. It wasn't just greasy; the nutty, savory flavor was really good.
