Sashimi bar in Ingye-dong, Suwon: aged fish platter, Taebaek Sanghoe
In short
Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch (태백상회 인계본점) is a pojangmacha-style (Korean street tent bar) raw fish restaurant at the start of the Na Hye-seok Street food alley in Ingye-dong, Suwon, with an aged sashimi counter alongside a butcher-style meat section. On an early Sunday evening the writer ordered the medium aged sashimi platter for 49,000 won with draft beer, which included flatfish, rockfish, salmon, sweet shrimp, squid and yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), and the outdoor tables set a relaxed mood. The weather has cooled down and it's the perfect season for a drink outdoors, so my friends and I were deciding where to go and ended up at Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch (태백상회 인계본점), a famous Ingye-dong spot.✨

Raw fish and meat in one place: what kind of restaurant is Taebaek Sanghoe?
Taebaek Sanghoe is a unique place with both a sashimi corner and a meat corner, so fish lovers and meat lovers can go together without any menu drama. You know those days when you want sashimi and also want meat? 😂 Someone likes fish, someone likes meat, and it's often hard to decide, but Taebaek Sanghoe solves that in one go! Being able to eat what you like was the biggest plus. Add the pojangmacha (street-tent pub) vibe and the atmosphere is great, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good outdoor drinking spot in Suwon too🍻

Pojangmacha-style interior and outdoor tables
The first thing I noticed when I walked into Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch was the atmosphere. The interior fully captures that pojangmacha feel, so it felt like being on a trip, and there are outdoor tables too, which is the best in weather like this🍻

I went on a Sunday early evening and it was already quite busy. Everyone was enjoying sashimi and drinks, which made me even more excited. As expected, a famous Na Hye-seok Street restaurant is different.
The biggest feature of Taebaek Sanghoe is that the right side of the shop works as an aged sashimi corner and the left side like a meat restaurant. So both fish lovers and meat lovers can be satisfied! It looked great for a get-together with friends or a company dinner too.

What side dishes come out?
The side dishes at Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch were seasoned radish (musaengchae), green onion kimchi and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). They came out one by one after we ordered, and the green onion kimchi was a surprise favorite. It went well with the aged sashimi, and I think it would pair nicely with meat too.

And of course we couldn't skip cold draft beer🍺 We ordered two glasses and toasted right away with my boyfriend, haha. What we ordered was
🐟 Aged sashimi platter (medium) ₩49,000
What's in the ₩49,000 medium aged sashimi platter?
The medium aged sashimi platter at Taebaek Sanghoe is ₩49,000, and the variety was really impressive.

- Flatfish (gwangeo)
- Rockfish (ureok)
- Salmon
- Sweet shrimp
- Monkfish liver (ankimo)
- Yukhoe (seasoned raw beef)
- Spear squid
- Cuttlefish
They say the lineup changes a little with the season, and everything looked so fresh that it passed on looks alone.👏

Spear squid and cuttlefish
The spear squid was soft yet chewy, and the cuttlefish had a great bite. The more I chewed, the sweeter it got, which was so appealing. The squid was fresh, so it wasn't tough at all and was really tender.

Salmon
Thanks to its moderate fattiness, the salmon melted softly in the mouth. It wasn't greasy and had a rich, nutty flavor, so it went really well with the draft beer. One bite of salmon, one sip of beer, pure happiness...🍺

Aged flatfish
I tried the flatfish first, and it was aged really well, so the texture was super chewy. A subtle sweetness came up as I chewed, and I could really feel the charm of aged sashimi. There was no fishy taste at all; it was clean and mild, so I kept reaching for more.

Aged rockfish
The rockfish was a bit springier than the flatfish. Bouncy in texture, with a nuttiness that rises as you chew, and it was really good with a little wasabi on top. If you like texture, definitely try the rockfish👍

Sweet shrimp
The sweet shrimp was what I was most looking forward to! The moment it went in my mouth, a sweet savory flavor spread, and the texture was soft and moist. I can see why so many people love sweet shrimp. I wanted one more😂

Naver review event: sugar tomatoes
Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch was also running an event where you get sugar tomatoes as a free service if you write a Naver review while dining. The sweet sugar tomatoes work nicely like a dessert, so even this small service was satisfying🍅

Yukhoe (seasoned raw beef)
I thought it would only be aged sashimi, so I was really happy that yukhoe came with the platter too. It had a subtle toasty sesame oil aroma and a soft, moist texture that I loved.
Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch as an outdoor drinking spot in Suwon
The food at Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch was tasty, but above all the atmosphere was great. The pojangmacha vibe makes it easy to chat with friends, and with outdoor tables it's a really nice place for a drink on a cool evening. I could see why it's famous as an outdoor drinking spot in Suwon!
If you're after a day when you want both sashimi and meat, a drink somewhere with good atmosphere, or a place for a relaxed get-together with friends, I really recommend Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch. The aged sashimi quality was good, the lineup varied, and the atmosphere was satisfying too! Next time I'm going to try the meat as well😊 If you're looking for a good restaurant in Ingye-dong, on Na Hye-seok Street, or an outdoor drinking spot in Suwon, give it a visit.🍣🍻
