What kind of bar is Yeongdong Pocha in Sinnonhyeon?
Yeongdong Pocha (영동포차) is an outdoor-market-style bar on the 2nd floor of the Nonhyeon food alley near Sinnonhyeon Station, a pocha (Korean pub) where you can enjoy lots of seafood and meat dishes. Pets are welcome too! 🐶
It's been so long since I last came to Nonhyeon?!!?!! This cool, breezy weather is perfect for Yeongdong Pocha, an outdoor-vibe bar near Sinnonhyeon Station! It was my mom's first time in Gangnam with me, and after agonizing over where to go, we ended up here haha.
Yeongdong Pocha had plenty of dishes good for a first or second round, from seasonal items like raw marinated female blue crab, spicy crab salad and boiled baby octopus to bossam (boiled pork wraps), basil chicken soup and crab stew.
What are the outdoor seats and the interior like?
Yeongdong Pocha has outdoor-market-style seating and a retro 2nd-floor interior. I thought about sitting outside, but... I was afraid of bug bites, so indoors it was!!
The windows are open, so even inside it feels like being outdoors? More and more customers kept filling in as time went on lol. The space is big too, so it'd be good for group gatherings or company dinners in Nonhyeon. You can agree it has that outdoor-bar vibe, right?!
What's on the Yeongdong Pocha menu?
The menu at Yeongdong Pocha was almost too long to list. There was seafood, meat, soups, jeon (savory pancakes) and set menus.

As a proper pocha, it had all kinds of dishes, but we'd had meat for the first round and were full, so we decided on seafood! After some thought, we ordered the Yeongdong Samhap, which lets you try a combo of yuk sashimi, uni, scallop (gaeajisal) and sweet shrimp~~!

The complimentary side at Yeongdong Pocha is ramyeon-ttang (crunchy ramen snack), which is tasty even on its own! Imagine how good it is with drinks? I just kept eating it..
What's in the Yeongdong Samhap, and how much is it?
The Yeongdong Samhap at Yeongdong Pocha comes with avocado, scallop, yuk sashimi, sweet shrimp and uni, plus gamtae (seaweed), for the low ₩50,000s. It was the perfect dish for my mom and me, total seafood lovers!!!
The quality is insane, right...
You get this combo for the low ₩50,000s, which is a huge bargain!! On top of that, it comes with radish sprouts, lemon, wasabi, soy sauce, gochujang vinegar sauce, sesame oil sauce and chodaebap (vinegared rice)!
Aren't the fried sweet shrimp heads greasy?
They even fried the heads of the sweet shrimp from the Yeongdong Samhap, so that's one more anju (drink snack), yay~ My mom said it was so nutty and ate them up lol. If they'd been stir-fried in butter they might have been greasy, but maybe because they were just stir-fried (?), they weren't greasy at all!! So I didn't get sick of them haha.
Even in photos, the plump, bouncy seafood drives me crazy...
The sweet shrimp and avocado went so well together, and the uni had zero fishy taste, so good!
Is the seafood okay in hot weather?
You might be nervous about eating seafood in this weather, but the seafood at Yeongdong Pocha, a Nonhyeon bar, is so fresh that there's no need to worry! If I hadn't been so full, I would have ordered other dishes too..😭
The owner was really kind too!
Put yuk sashimi or scallop on the gamtae they give you, then top it with uni and sweet shrimp, and this is basically an omakase 🥹
Yeongdong Pocha hours and overall verdict
Yeongdong Pocha is open Tue–Sat 16:00–06:00 and Sun & Mon 17:00–06:00. The seafood is so fresh that seafood lovers have to go! It's good for light snacks and for filling up, and I recommend this Nonhyeon outdoor-style bar.
