Gangnam café, cheese cookie & Dubai scone: Something About Coffee

I went out for a day in the Gangnam Station area with a friend, something we hadn't done in a while.

We were looking for a café full of tasty desserts and found Something About Coffee (썸띵어바웃커피). It was even better than I expected, so I want to introduce it to you.
Location and opening hours of Something About Coffee
Something About Coffee is at 30 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. You can walk from Exit 11 of Gangnam Station (Line 2 and Shinbundang Line) or Exit 4 of Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9 and Shinbundang Line). It is open every day from 11:00 to 23:00.

Among Gangnam Station cafés, it's a big one with a reputation for a dazzling dessert lineup.

It's also an easy walk if you're looking for a café near Sinnonhyeon Station, so the location is great.

A standalone three-floor building, with the counter on the 2nd floor
Something About Coffee uses an entire three-floor building to itself, so the scale was impressive from the start.

Go in, head up the stairs to the 2nd floor, and you'll see the counter right away.

The moment I stepped onto the 2nd floor, the warm, sweet smell of baking hit me, and I was happy before I'd even eaten anything.

Signature cakes lining both sides of the counter
The area around the 2nd-floor counter was packed with all kinds of desserts. What caught my eye most were the signature cakes lined up along both sides of the counter. There were so many kinds at a glance that choosing became a happy dilemma.

They all looked so pretty that I couldn't stop taking photos. After much agonizing, we picked a black sesame cream latte, a cocoa latte, a Dubai scone and a cheese cookie. Once the drinks and desserts came out, we found a seat and finally dug in.

The cheese cookie: a textbook chewy sweet-and-salty
The cheese cookie was the first thing I reached for, and one bite filled my mouth with rich flavor. The texture was the very definition of chewy, with the savory richness and sweetness of cheese blended together.

It tasted like a textbook sweet-and-salty combo, and I never got tired of it; I just kept eating. If you love chewy cheese desserts, this is a guaranteed hit.

What does the Dubai scone taste like?
The Dubai scone, Something About Coffee's take on the super-hot Dubai-style dessert, didn't let me down either. You know how Dubai chocolate tastes and feels, so of course it can't be bad, right?

When that charming Dubai-style filling meets a plain, nutty scone, the appeal doubles. The crisp, nutty scone gently wraps the sweet Dubai filling, and the pairing was fantastic.

Black sesame cream latte and cocoa latte
The cream on the black sesame cream latte I ordered was truly excellent. The sweet cream, with its distinctive nutty black sesame flavor, came in first and soft. Then the bitter espresso mixed in behind it, and the balance of nutty, sweet and bitter was the best.

My friend's cocoa latte was full of rich, smooth chocolate flavor, and she said it was great with the desserts.

Worth recommending as a Gangnam Station dessert spot?
The roomy space made it comfortable for chatting, and you could feel the care in every dessert. If you're after a real dessert spot among the cafés near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon Station, do give it a visit.

Sweet cakes, special scones and signature drinks will give you a perfect healing break. We were too full that day to try the signature Yangzhi Ganlu (mango-pomelo) cakes, so next time I plan to come back and work through them one by one.
