Sadang Station pub: beef sashimi and salmon combo at Sadang Gwanganri

In short

Sadang Gwanganri Sadang Main Branch is a retro, pocha-style (Korean street pub) sashimi bar near Sadang Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, serving aged sashimi and seafood. The writer ordered the yukban-yeonban, a half-and-half platter of beef sashimi (yuksashimi) and salmon, eaten with perilla leaves, garlic, seaweed sheets, chojang (sweet chili vinegar sauce) and seasoned seaweed salad; the beef sashimi was soft and nutty, and the salmon was thick and glossy. For easygoing drinks over sashimi or a group dinner near Sadang Station, the yukban-yeonban at Sadang Gwanganri Sadang Main Branch is a fitting choice.

Today I'm introducing Sadang Gwanganri Sadang Main Branch for anyone hunting for a sashimi bar and drinking spot near Sadang Station! It has fresh aged sashimi, a wide range of seafood and a great atmosphere for a drink, so I was really satisfied. The snacks were top quality, as you'd expect from a Sadang Station pocha (Korean-style tavern) known for aged sashimi, and the space is big, so it would be perfect for a group dinner in Sadang too. Okay, here's my honest review✨

Sadang Gwanganri Sadang Main Branch has a retro pocha vibe, with vintage interiors, graffiti and soft lighting. The moment I walked in, the retro feel hit me! It felt like the regular hangout of some company chairman (?), and I wanted a drink from the second I stepped inside. The vintage decor and graffiti covering the walls plus the soft lighting gave it that warm, homey pocha feeling. It's really good for a group dinner in Sadang or a casual drink with friends!

What basic side dishes come with the yukban-yeonban?

This time I ordered yukban-yeonban, a half-and-half platter of beef sashimi and salmon. The table came packed with wrap vegetables, garlic, chili peppers, assorted sauces, white kimchi and side dishes. I was in awe from the look of it alone~~ It's fun to mix and match everything. It felt like the perfect setup to go with a drink.

How does the beef sashimi at Sadang Gwanganri taste?

The beef sashimi at Sadang Gwanganri had a vivid color and a soft texture that spreads gently in your mouth. Pick up a slice and you can see the grain really stands out, right?! If you're looking for proper beef sashimi at a sashimi bar near Sadang Station, this dish will satisfy you.

Wrap of beef sashimi and garlic on a perilla leaf

My top pick: perilla leaf + garlic + beef sashimi

The beef sashimi was tasty on its own, but I really want to recommend wrapping it in a perilla leaf with a piece of garlic! The fragrant perilla leaf brought out the nutty flavor of the beef even more, and the sharp garlic cut any richness. Stuffing a big bite in, the texture was great and the harmony was the best. Personally, this combo was my number one pick!

Beef sashimi with wasabi or kimchi

It also goes well with wasabi and kimchi

Since the beef sashimi is clean and nutty, I totally recommend eating it with wasabi or kimchi in between~~! A little sharp~~ wasabi on top made the beefy flavor pop, and a bit of kimchi reset my mouth. So I enjoyed it to the end without feeling heavy! The drinks just go down glug glug glug

Thick salmon sashimi from the yukban-yeonban

What's the best way to eat the salmon at Sadang Gwanganri?

The salmon in the yukban-yeonban comes thickly sliced and glossy, so you can feel the freshness right away. Next up is the salmon~~! That luminous orange caught my eye immediately. Just one piece fills your mouth. It looked so good I wanted to eat it right now! Disappear into my mouth quick!!!!!

Garlic to cleanse the palate before eating salmon

First, before tasting, I cleanse my palate with a bit of garlic

Wrap of salmon on perilla leaf and seaweed dipped in chojang

Perilla leaf + seaweed + salmon + chojang: land + sea + sea + sea

I put seaweed on a perilla leaf, added a slice of salmon, and dipped it in chojang (sweet-and-spicy red pepper sauce), and the texture was seriously amazing. The nutty salmon made me exclaim every single bite!

Seaweed salad served with the salmon

Eating it with the seaweed salad

I totally recommend eating the salmon with the seaweed salad that comes alongside! The seaweed with its faint scent of the sea cleanly cuts the richness of the salmon and resets your mouth. Eating it this way, I never got tired of it to the end, and it was truly the best drinking snack.

Daesun soju with sashimi snacks

A Sadang Station pocha where the drinks go down easy

It's Sadang 'Gwanganri' (named after Gwangalli), so Daesun soju (a Busan brand) is a must, right? (okay, I'm just forcing it, haha) The salmon and beef sashimi combo was so good that one glass, then another... and by the time I came to, I was totally hammered~~ I couldn't tell whether good snacks make the drinks taste good or good drinks make the snacks taste good. If you really love drinking, be careful... For the record, I don't really drink much^^ Hahahaha it just keeps going down
