Seoulsup Japanese restaurant with ebi cream croquette: Oshi Black
In short
Oshi Black Seongsu is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant specialising in okonomiyaki and yakisoba, on basement level 1 near Seoulsup Station in Seongdong, Seoul. The writer took a friend who lives in the US there right at opening on a weekday lunch, ordered Oshi modan-yaki, a yakisoba pork belly roll and ebi (shrimp) cream croquettes, and got a free 4-shrimp topping through a Naver review event. Having been to Japan more than 10 times, the writer rates Oshi Black Seongsu's okonomiyaki as even better than in Japan and perfectly suited to Korean tastes.

What should we eat in Seongsu with a friend from the US?
Oshi Black Seongsu is a Japanese restaurant near Seoulsup serving okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) and yakisoba (fried noodles). I went with a friend who lives in the US and was visiting Korea. The day before, we'd been around Cheonggyecheon and Gwangjang Market. It was my first time at Gwangjang Market too, haha. It had this 1980s Seoul feel, a very old-fashioned vibe that felt new to me. But I worried my friend might think that's all Seoul is! So this time we headed to the hot spot, Seongsu.
I agonized over what to eat, then remembered we both loved okonomiyaki when we traveled to Japan together. I searched for Japanese restaurants near Seoulsup and ended up at Oshi Black Seongsu!

Is Oshi Black Seongsu crowded on weekday lunch? Which station is closest?
Going right around opening time on a weekday lunch, it was quiet and relaxed, but by the time we finished and left, every seat was taken! Since they use Catchtable, I guess it's a place people queue for.
I took the subway and got off at Seoulsup Station, but Ttukseom Station Exit 3, Seongsu Station Exit 4 and Seoulsup Station Exit 2 are all close, which is nice.

What does "Oshi" mean?
My Japanese is still beginner level and I didn't know what "oshi" meant, so I looked it up. It means your favorite, your bias! I guess it means anyone who visits once will make it their favorite spot. And honestly, Oshi Black Seongsu really became my favorite okonomiyaki place! It was so good~

Shrimp topping from the review event
If you join the Naver review event at Oshi Black Seongsu, you can get an extra topping! I can't pass up something like that, so I joined and got a topping of 4 shrimp, hehe.

What should you order on a first visit?
It was my first visit and I wasn't sure what to get... so I picked the items with the crown mark on the menu. Recommended dishes shouldn't fail! We ordered the Oshi modan-yaki, the yakisoba pork belly roll and the shrimp (ebi) cream croquette.

Everything is made on the teppan griddle as soon as you order, so it's fun to watch. Sitting at the bar seats would be nice too.

The pickles were good too!

Is the shrimp cream croquette good even if you don't like fried food?
The shrimp (ebi) cream croquette came out first. I actually don't love fried food, okay? But this is insane... so good! Bite through the crispy coating and shrimp cream, made with care over 3 hours, comes flowing out! It's so smooth, nutty and creamy, I could cry, T.T
When I later read the menu description, it said many people call it their life croquette! And honestly, it was the best croquette I've ever had, haha. If you're stuck on a side dish, definitely try it!

What does the signature Oshi modan-yaki taste like?
Oshi modan-yaki is the signature dish of Oshi Black Seongsu, an okonomiyaki favorite! It looks like a rolled omelet (gyeranmari), right? Inside is stir-fried yakisoba packed with all sorts of ingredients!

Wow...... this was so good too! I actually prefer okonomiyaki over yakisoba, but with the modan-yaki the yakisoba is mixed with all kinds of ingredients, so it was delicious >.< My friend also said all the food was great and asked how I found this place, which made me proud, haha.

Yakisoba pork belly roll, topped with the shrimp too?
The yakisoba pork belly roll is also a signature dish at Oshi Black Seongsu! And with the shrimp topping from the review event, haha, the look is the best! It's Oshi's signature: yakisoba rolled in fatty pork belly, with rich melted cheese and egg settling over it.

It looks like it couldn't possibly be bad, right? Haha. I usually like strongly seasoned food, so I love Japanese food too! I've been to Japan 10-something times, and this yakisoba and okonomiyaki place was way better than Japan! It suits Korean tastes perfectly, haha. I'll definitely stop by every time I'm in Seongsu!

Takeout for a Seoulsup picnic, and is day drinking possible?
Oshi Black Seongsu also does takeout, so I recommend it if you're planning an outing or picnic at Seoulsup! Imagine enjoying warm packed okonomiyaki and yakisoba on the Seoulsup lawn, haha. They also have a wide range of drinks, including highballs, whisky, nihonshu (sake) and beer, so it's perfect for day drinking too!
On the way out I saw that celebrities have already visited this Seoulsup spot~ If you go to Seongsu, definitely stop by~
