An Apgujeong bakery, Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black (압구정생식빵옵션블랙).

A café near the CGV at Apgujeong Station for a quick break: Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black
Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black is a loaf bread bakery café near the CGV at Apgujeong Station, and I stopped by on a day I had a hospital visit nearby! Since I was already out, I wanted good coffee and a little rest, so I went to an Apgujeong Station café I'd had saved for a while.
And that's Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black :) If you love bread (siktppang, or sandwich loaf), it's hard to walk past a name like that haha. "Saengsikppang" (fresh loaf)... you can feel the huge confidence in their bread right from the name!

What does Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black look like from outside?
A huge loaf-shaped sign sits above the entrance, so it stands out even from far away. Lately I've been baking bread at home and I'm totally hooked on spreading butter, so I was extra curious when I heard you can toast the bread yourself here. Hot toasted bread with butter smoothly spread on top... just thinking about it makes me happy, right? haha
The first thing I noticed on arrival was that giant loaf-shaped sign! A golden-brown loaf stuck above the entrance, and it's secretly adorable. Even from afar it seems to announce, "Bread here!" haha The white exterior, the hanging fabric and the loaf decorations go together so well that I was taking photos before I even went in.

The atmosphere: sunny seats by the big windows
The café has big windows that let in sunlight, with trees visible outside, so it's a nice place to sit during the day. Inside, the sunlight was really pretty. The white tables and wood-look chairs go well together, and even the sunlight settling on the table looked warm.

What's the difference between the S loaf and the D loaf?
The two basic loaves at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black are the plain "S loaf" (ㅅ식빵) and the buttery "D loaf" (ㄷ식빵). I liked the cute names, and I liked that I could compare the two.
According to the menu, the plain S loaf is made with a blend of sour cream and fresh cream, without a single drop of honey. The buttery D loaf is described as a premium loaf made with 100% fresh cream! Reading that, I thought, this place is pretty serious about even a single loaf of bread.
What's in the dine-in bread sets?
Besides whole loaves, there are bread sets for eating in. You can choose between two slices of bread with 3 jams, or two slices of bread with butter.

There's a chestnut loaf too haha

Butter set (7,000 won) and Tamiru Americano (6,500 won)
What I ordered that day at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black was the set with two slices of bread and butter for ₩7,000, plus a Tamiru Americano for ₩6,500! Bread alongside a warm cup of coffee made a table that felt good just to look at.
The coffee in a yellow mug is cute, and I loved that the butter came on a small wooden tray. The bread packaging is marked "ㅅ" and "ㄷ", so it was easy to tell the two apart. Even these little details are cute in a bread-shop way haha

Can you toast the bread yourself at the table?
Yes, at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black you toast the bread yourself in the toaster on your table. When I was searching for an Apgujeong Station bread spot, this self-toasting style was the biggest reason I saved this place! It's a different kind of fun from being handed finished toast, and I was excited from the moment I put the bread in and waited.

Put the toasted bread on a plate and set the butter on top! Once the butter softens a little on the hot bread, just spread it smoothly with a knife. Freshly toasted bread with melting butter really needs no explanation :)
Eat the golden edge, then spread butter on the soft middle! Even within a single slice there was fun to be had. I tried a bit of the bread plain first and then added butter, so I could compare my taste between the two loaves too.
Unsalted vs. salted butter: which was better?
The butter set at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black comes with both unsalted and salted butter, so I alternated. The salted butter adds a slightly salty note that makes you want more! If you like salty butter, you may prefer this one.
But for me, unsalted butter on the buttery D loaf was just right haha
Next time: the 3-jam set
Since I had the butter set this time, I'm curious about the 3-jam set at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black next. Even the same bread probably feels different depending on what you spread on it haha I especially wonder how the apple cinnamon jam would taste on warm toast.
Toasting bread myself in a sunny café, melting butter onto it, and having warm coffee alongside. Even without fancy toppings, bread and butter alone were enough to put me in a good mood.
If you're near the CGV at Apgujeong Station, this is a good Apgujeong Station café to drop in and rest. If you like bread and butter like I do, try the fun of toasting it yourself.
A recommended Apgujeong spot for bread lovers! From the cute loaf sign to the sunny seats and the buttery loaf that suited my taste! This loaf-hunting outing was a happy success too haha 🥪☕
