After work on a weekday, my boyfriend and I wanted a good dinner date somewhere with a nice vibe, so we headed to Jojo Mullae Branch, the restaurant that's been drawing weekday waiting lines in Mullae lately.
Where is Jojo Mullae Branch, and how long is the weekday evening wait?
Jojo Mullae Branch sits in an alley not far on foot from Mullae Station on Line 2, so anyone hunting for good food near the station can get there easily by public transit! Mullae has that distinct neighborhood charm with good restaurants tucked into every alley 👀

We arrived right at weekday evening peak time and the place was already full, so we put our name down and waited about 20 minutes before getting seated. Seeing the crowd never let up even on a weekday, I knew we'd found the right spot.

I usually love Japanese teppan dishes, and Jojo is already a well-known name for okonomiyaki and monjayaki! I think the owner even appeared on that black-and-white chef competition show. So I was already excited before we even walked in.
What is the teppan dining room at Jojo Mullae Branch like?
Stepping inside, the place was packed with people already deep into their meals. The lighting was dim and soft throughout, giving off a calm, cozy feel!
It had that lively yet warm izakaya energy going, making it feel like exactly the kind of Mullae bar mood you'd want for a couple's drink or a gathering with friends. There were plenty of people pairing teppan dishes with a beer.

One thing that stuck with me... the staff were all so friendly and full of energy?! Beyond the food, the service left a real impression.
What comes in the 39,500 won 2-person monjayaki set?

Once seated, we ordered the 2-person monjayaki set (₩39,500) which lets you try several signature dishes at once. The set came out in order: the signature mentaiko monjayaki first, followed by the waterfall potato as a great side, then the spicy yakisoba to bring some heat 😋

Mentaiko monjayaki with the 3,000 won mochi topping
Honestly, this was my first time ever trying monjayaki, so I was half excited, half curious about what it would taste like. One bite in, and I completely understood why so many people have been seeking it out lately! It's cooked on the teppan while chopping the ingredients finely into a loose, saucy texture — the salty richness of the mentaiko (salted cod roe) melts into the base and the umami is out of this world.

While we waited, a staff member made it right in front of us, which made things easy. One nice thing about teppan dishes is that they stay hot all the way through instead of cooling down.

We paid an extra ₩3,000 to add mochi (rice cake) as a topping, and if you like mochi, I definitely recommend adding it! The mochi cooks up soft and chewy, and it was surprisingly delicious mixed in.

My first-ever monjayaki was thoroughly satisfying. The ingredients — cheese, mentaiko, mochi — don't sound like anything special on paper, but the combination worked so well! Being on the salty side, I think it'd be perfect as a drinking snack too. I didn't drink that day, but next time I'd definitely want a beer alongside it!!

🥔 Waterfall potato, the set's crispy side
True to its name, the visual of sauce and toppings cascading down over soft potato like a waterfall was striking! The fluffy, creamy potato texture combined with the salty sauce made it addictively good — hard to stop reaching for it. It was the perfect thing to pick at between the main dishes.

🥢 Karai yakisoba: how spicy are the fresh noodles?
Closing out the set, the spicy yakisoba had a subtle smoky char to it. The spicy seasoning soaked right into the noodles and cut through any richness perfectly. The crunch of the cabbage, the meat topping, and the springy noodles worked together so well — it was the perfect spicy finish after the softness of the monjayaki.

You can choose from a few different yakisoba flavors, and personally, I'd recommend the spicy one! Both the waterfall potato and monjayaki lean savory and salty, so having one spicy dish in the mix balanced things out perfectly.

The ingredients were generous, and since the noodles are fresh-made, the texture was fantastic. It's not just a monjayaki restaurant — I think it might be a yakisoba restaurant too... I didn't expect to be impressed by the yakisoba, but I really was.
Is Jojo Mullae Branch worth it for drinks and a date near Mullae Station?
From the novel appeal of monjayaki I'd never tried before to the yakisoba and potato, the set balance was really spot on. I go to Mullae often, so Jojo is definitely going on my must-visit list now.
There's a reason people wait for this one! The time was not wasted at all for a Mullae find. If you're in the mood for monjayaki with a beer, Jojo Mullae Branch is my recommendation 🧡
