Ansan sashimi spot, roe fish stew & mini platter: Eochongye 1beonji

In short

Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) is a live-fish sashimi restaurant on Bandalseom in Ansan that also serves its sashimi in mini sizes. After a weekend outing to Geobukseom, a couple had dinner there: the mini seasonal sashimi platter (32,000 won), altang (fish roe stew, 28,000 won) and rice. The mini sashimi was thick-cut and generous, and the altang was full of roe and milt. Eochongye 1beonji is a good Bandalseom pick for two light eaters who want both sashimi and a hot stew.

Dinner at Eochongye 1beonji in Bandalseom after a Geobukseom outing

Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) is a raw fish restaurant in Bandalseom, Ansan. My husband and I stopped by for dinner after spending the weekend at Geobukseom. We walked around Bandalseom and thought, let's have a proper plate of sashimi tonight.

Scenery around Eochongye 1beonji in Bandalseom on a weekend evening

The breeze is nice these days and it's a lovely time to stroll by the sea, so I bet lots of you head out to Bandalseom. After dark, outdoor tables were set up in front of Eochongye 1beonji and plenty of people were eating outside. One person was even live-streaming, maybe a broadcaster? Should I do a mukbang too? haha

I like seafood in general and love trying new sashimi places, and this time the sashimi quality and the set-up were both good, so I left very satisfied.

Mini-size dishes, a relief for light eaters

The nice thing about Eochongye 1beonji is that the menu has mini sizes. My husband and I don't eat much and always leave food behind, so seeing the mini option made me so happy..!

Ordering the mini seasonal sashimi and roe stew: what comes on the table?

We ordered through the tablet at the table: the mini seasonal sashimi platter (₩32,000), the roe fish stew (₩28,000) and steamed rice.

Honestly, the basic sides (sukkidasi, the starter dishes served before sashimi) at Eochongye 1beonji aren't very fancy. It seemed to be made up of just the essentials.

They say Eochongye 1beonji serves only fresh live fish brought in the same day from Yeonan Pier.

There's also a guide to the various sauces and how to enjoy the sashimi.

I was surprised that the mini seasonal sashimi platter came out more generous than I expected. If you're looking for a sashimi place in Bandalseom, Eochongye 1beonji is worth a visit.

Generous mini seasonal sashimi platter

Best of all, the staff were friendly, so the first impression was great. There seem to be lots of delivery orders too: as soon as packed orders were set out, riders kept picking them up.

Mini seasonal sashimi: how were the flounder and rockfish?

The mini seasonal sashimi platter was cut thick, and the chewy texture and freshness came through right away. With the sashimi and the roe stew together on the table, it was a huge spread.

Maybe because the fish was in season, the texture was chewy and the freshness was obvious. The thick slices were satisfying to chew, and it was fun picking out the different kinds. The flounder and rockfish in particular were clean-tasting with a firm bite, and that nutty flavor of in-season fish was really good.

A piece of seasonal sashimi dipped in chojang

I wrapped a piece in a lettuce leaf, then dabbed one in chojang (sweet-spicy chili vinegar sauce), and it tasted like it was begging for a drink. (Even though I can't drink, haha.) My husband kept saying the sashimi was in great shape that day and that it was delicious.

The full Eochongye 1beonji seasonal sashimi spread

You really do get that Japanese-style sashimi-house feel here. It isn't over the top, and the lineup is just right for enjoying the main sashimi, which I liked.

Considering prices these days, I thought this spread at this price was really good. So I'd recommend it to anyone looking for good-value sashimi in Ansan.

Spicy Eochongye 1beonji roe fish stew

Eochongye 1beonji roe fish stew: how much roe and milt?

The roe fish stew (₩28,000) was packed with roe and had plenty of gon-i (fish milt). The stew we ordered alongside was really satisfying too, with a spicy yet refreshing broth that tasted properly rich.

Roe fish stew packed with roe and milt

After the sashimi, a spoonful of hot broth felt soothing all the way down. With so much roe and plenty of milt, it would make a great drinking snack too.

The broth wasn't harsh but clean, so I kept going back for more. If you like gon-i, you'll like this stew even more. (There is a ton of gon-i in it!)

I added rice and ate it almost like a hangover soup. The sashimi and roe stew combo was so good that I'd probably order the exact same thing next time.

A night-view stroll by the sea in Bandalseom after dinner

After eating at Eochongye 1beonji, we took a short walk toward the sea in Bandalseom, and the night view was so nice that I thought it would make a good date course. On a day with weather like lately, seeing the sea and then having a plate of tasty sashimi is a perfect plan.

It was a day of fresh sashimi and spicy roe stew, and we left happy with the generous portions and great flavor.

Live fish tank at the Eochongye 1beonji entrance

Direct from the source, an invitation sent by the sea.. haha. The tank at the entrance was full of super fresh live fish. I'd recommend Eochongye 1beonji to anyone looking for good-value sashimi in Ansan or who likes the Japanese-style sashimi-house vibe in Bandalseom.
