Large Goyang bakery café, sparse shelves: corn cream bread, Baedagol

In short

Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스) is a large bakery café with a garden near Wondang in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. The writer went back to Baedagol Bakery House for a quiet coffee break and found the display shelves only sparsely stocked, picked red bean bread, salt bread and corn cream bread from what was left, and received a free 1kg bag of sweet potatoes for spending ₩30,000 or more. Browsing the bread was disappointing this time, but Baedagol Bakery House's spacious interior and garden views still make it a good Goyang café for a relaxing break.

Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스) is the big Goyang café I head to whenever I suddenly want a cup of coffee. I went back again to sit back with a drink and try a few tasty breads.

Visiting Baedagol Bakery House, a large café in Goyang

It has lots of space, a wide variety of baked goods and an outdoor garden, so it's a great place to get some fresh air instead of sitting in a stuffy downtown café.

The garden at Baedagol Bakery House in early autumn

This time too I stopped by Baedagol Bakery House to take a short break with a cup of coffee.

Maybe because it was a clear day, the garden looked even prettier. The green trees are just starting to change color. It was sunny but chilly, so the outdoor tables were completely empty.

Baedagol Bakery House bread: when should you go for the best selection?

On this visit I was surprised that the display shelves at Baedagol Bakery House had almost no bread. If browsing the bread is the point for you, I think it's better to go early, rather than after the morning-set hours or late in the day.

When you come to a bakery café, you always check out the shelves first, right? I was ready to pick out some bread, but...

There was hardly any bread, which really surprised me. The shelves were patchy and empty. There was a sign I hadn't seen before: every day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., you can get one bread plus one coffee for ₩9,900 as the morning set, no matter the bread's price. Is that why everyone comes early to enjoy the café?..

Morning set and goodnight set: the ₩9,900 terms

The goodnight set applies every day after 6 p.m. on the same terms as the morning set, but there may not be much bread left by then, so you might not get the bread you want. I can't tell whether it's because of the event or just the time I visited, but if you go expecting the fun of choosing your own bread, you might be a little disappointed.

Baedagol's sweet potato gift event and photo review event

Baedagol Bakery House is running a sweet potato gift event: spend ₩30,000 or more and you get 1kg of sweet potatoes. They also sell a 1kg bag for ₩5,000.

I spent over ₩30,000, so I got a bag as a gift. I roasted the sweet potatoes as soon as I got home, and they were really good.

There's also a Naver photo review event, so keep that in mind. From what I saw, if you buy a drink and bakery items and write a photo review you get bread, and if you spend over a certain amount you get sweet potatoes as a gift. Event details and menu items can change depending on when you visit, so it's best to check at the store.

Coffee with red bean bread, salt bread and corn cream bread

At Baedagol Bakery House, if you order the Real Sweet Potato Latte or the Real Chestnut Latte, you get a roasted sweet potato or roasted chestnuts, respectively. That day I ordered an iced coffee and a hot coffee.

There wasn't much bread, but from what was left I picked red bean bread, salt bread and corn cream bread.

If there had been more variety it would've been more fun to choose, so next time I'll try coming a bit earlier.

A big Goyang café: indoor seats and outdoor tables

Baedagol Bakery House is a good Goyang/Ilsan café to visit when you want coffee and bread in a spacious setting.

Indoor seating and window view at Baedagol Bakery House

Baedagol is a big Goyang café that's comfortable to relax in indoors, with the view outside as a bonus. If you're looking for somewhere to have tea near Wondang, or for a roomy Ilsan café, it seems like a decent option.

The weather is starting to turn cold, so there were no guests sitting at the outdoor tables.

Maybe because it was cold, there were no seats when I first arrived at Baedagol, so I sat at a two-person table outside, then quickly moved when a private space opened up. The selection of bread can vary depending on your visit time and the day's situation, so if the bakery is your goal, I'd recommend going early.

Coffee and bread enjoyed at Baedagol Bakery House

Baedagol is a place I'd like to drop back into whenever I want a cup of tea. The small bread selection was a letdown this time, but it was nice to take a short break with coffee in a relaxed atmosphere.
