Sokcho Beach pizzeria: big Margherita for two after a walk, Gagas
In short
Gagas Pizza (가가스피자) Sokcho is a New York-style pizzeria tucked into an alley off Saemaeul 9-gil, near Sokcho Beach in Sokcho, Gangwon. After a walk on Sokcho Beach, the writer and her husband shared a big-size Margherita pizza in the second-floor dining room. The Margherita had a clean, mellow flavor with fresh basil, and even after both ate their fill, there was enough left to take home. Gagas Pizza suits travelers looking for a different lunch after a stroll on Sokcho Beach.

Why we went to Gagas Pizza after a walk on Sokcho Beach
Gagas Pizza (가가스피자) in Sokcho is a New York-style pizzeria close to Sokcho Beach, so it's a great stop after a beach walk. On this Sokcho trip we saw the sea and ate a lot of good food. After one lap of the beach, we were getting hungry. While we were deciding what to eat, we found Gagas Pizza.

Gagas Pizza's Sokcho branch has a reputation as a Sokcho beach favorite. It's close to the shore, easy to drop into after a walk, and above all I was excited to try a big New York-style pizza.

Getting to Gagas Pizza in Sokcho, and parking
Gagas Pizza's Sokcho branch isn't on the main road but inside an alley off Saemaeul 9-gil. I don't have a photo, but it's a short way into the alley facing the entrance of Hite Jinro.

We parked at Sokcho Beach Public Parking Lot 3, and it was free. As we got ready to cross the road, we spotted the Sokcho Eye Ferris wheel. We had ridden it the day before, so it felt extra familiar.

The alley floor in Saemaeul 9-gil is painted with pictures, and the whole lane is prettily decorated. Seeing the Gagas Pizza sign made me extra happy, because there's a branch near our neighborhood in Yeonsinnae too.

Gagas Pizza's exterior and first floor
Gagas Pizza's Sokcho branch has a clean, stylish look: a white building with a red accent sign that stands out. The words AUTHENTIC NY SLICE PIZZA caught my eye. New York-style slice pizza!

The free-spirited vibe suits the Sokcho sea. There's also a waiting area in front of the shop. The photo with all the canned drinks looks cool.
Inside, the first floor has the counter and kitchen, and the space for eating is on the second floor.

We ordered the New York-style big-size Margherita pizza. They said the owner would bring it up to the second floor after we ordered, so we headed upstairs.
What are the second-floor seats like?
The second floor of Gagas Pizza in Sokcho is filled with sunlight from big windows, and the wood-toned interior feels comfortable. The tables are nicely spaced, so it was relaxing to eat.

From the window seats you can even catch a glimpse of the sea in the distance, which added to the travel mood. With this atmosphere, calling it a Sokcho Saemaeul vibe favorite fits perfectly.
Self-service corner and table extras
The second-floor self-service corner has everything from tableware to sauces and pickles. There's also a kiosk, so it seemed you could place extra orders there.

Every table has napkins, hot sauce and even Parmesan cheese powder, which was really convenient.

How does the big Margherita pizza taste?
The owner brought the big-size Margherita pizza to our second-floor table. The moment I saw it, I was surprised once by the size and again by how it looked.

A thin, crisp crust topped with plenty of cheese, rich tomato sauce and basil. Just looking at it made my mouth water.

It wasn't too salty but mellow, easy to eat without feeling heavy, and the basil aroma made the flavor much livelier.

When I lifted a slice, it felt exactly like the pizza from New York movies.

The dough was chewy while the edge was crisp, and the cheese and tomato sauce went together really well. Eating it with a cold cola, I thought, this must be one of those small joys of traveling. My husband and I took our time, chatting about this and that as we enjoyed the pizza.

Is it enough for two?
The big-size Margherita at Gagas Pizza is large enough that there was still some left after the two of us ate our fill. They packed the leftovers in a box with a cool sea scene printed on it.
I think Gagas Pizza is a good Sokcho pizza spot for when you want something different. I'd also recommend it for family trips with kids, or for anyone looking for a light lunch. If you want a place with a nice mood near Sokcho Beach, stop by Gagas Pizza. You get the charm of New York-style pizza and the calm of the Sokcho sea together.
We dropped in by chance during our Sokcho trip, but it was more satisfying than expected. Meeting the Gagas Pizza I'd seen in Eunpyeong-gu again in Sokcho made the meal even more fun.

A Sokcho beach favorite I'd love to visit again next time, and a Sokcho Saemaeul spot where you really feel the travel mood: that was Gagas Pizza. 🍕
