It's located near Bakchon Station on Incheon Line 1, so it's easy to reach by public transit, and it's been a beloved neighborhood favorite for years with its fresh raw duck and seasoned jumulleok (spicy stir-fried meat) grilled over charcoal, so my expectations were high before I even walked in.

There's a spacious private parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so if you're visiting as a family with a car, you can park with plenty of room and zero worries.
Inside Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch and its self-serve bar

Walking in, the wide, clean hall caught my eye right away. The tables were spaced generously and the ventilation was excellent, so even though it's a charcoal grill place, we could enjoy the meal comfortably without smoke or smell.

On one side there was a tidy self-serve bar stocked with fresh lettuce wraps, pickled radish, kimchi, and pickled onions that you could take as much of as you wanted, which I really appreciated.

Ordering half raw duck and half duck jumulleok
After settling in, I decided to order both the half portion of raw duck charcoal grill (350g) and the half portion of duck jumulleok charcoal grill (350g) so I could enjoy both the plain and spicy flavors!

As soon as we ordered, a sweet potato neatly wrapped in foil went straight into the charcoal brazier, followed by strong red-hot charcoal. Then came the neat side dishes along with duck meat that stood out with its color from the very first look.
The rich seaweed soup that comes as standard

Before grilling the meat, I first tried a spoonful of the hot seaweed soup that comes complimentary. Simmered for a long time, the seaweed was very tender and the broth had a deep, rich savoriness that was perfect for warming up my stomach before the meal.

Sipping it between bites of charcoal duck cleared the oiliness from my mouth every time, and the pairing was really excellent!
How the raw duck grilled with sea salt tastes

They started by putting the half portion of plain raw duck charcoal grill onto the pan. Maybe because it's fresh, not frozen, the meat had a vivid red color and a glossy sheen.

They sprinkled the coarse sea salt provided on the table and flipped the meat over the charcoal until it turned a nice golden brown.

I picked up a well-cooked piece of raw duck and tried it plain first, without any dipping sauce. There was absolutely no gamey smell typical of duck, and with every chew, the chewy, plump texture burst with savory, clean juices.

The subtle smoky aroma of the charcoal had soaked all the way into the grain of the meat, leaving behind the fat and nothing but clean flavor — I couldn't help but let out an admiring sigh.

Wrapped in sweet and tangy pickled radish, crunchy pickled onion, and fresh lettuce, it was a flavor I could keep eating endlessly without getting tired of it.
Sweet and spicy charcoal-grilled duck jumulleok

After cleanly finishing off the raw duck, we cleared the pan and put on the half portion of spicy duck jumulleok charcoal grill! The spicy-sweet aroma of the specially seasoned jumulleok meeting the charcoal hit me strongly the moment it started cooking.

We flipped it often with the tongs so the sauce wouldn't burn, cooking it carefully before taking a big bite.

The spicy yet subtly sweet, deeply savory sauce had soaked all the way into the duck meat, showing off a completely different, flashier charm from the raw duck. Wrapped in fragrant perilla leaves with two pieces of jumulleok, roasted garlic, and a touch of ssamjang (dipping sauce), it was absolutely heavenly.

Every time the spiciness lingered in my mouth, it felt like a stress-relieving kick in the best way.
Free sweet potato roasted in the leftover charcoal heat

The final finishing touch was the roasted sweet potato that had been put into the charcoal at the start of the meal!

After finishing the meat and removing the grill plate, they pulled out the foil with tongs and carefully peeled it open, revealing a perfect roasted sweet potato with golden honey dripping from it.

Blowing on the sweet, moist potato and taking a bite, it was the best natural dessert, rivaling anything from a dedicated dessert shop.
