Gangnam cake shop white crepe roll opened in the car: Chef Cho

In short

Chef Cho is a cake shop at the Sweet Park entrance on basement level 1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam in Seocho, Seoul. The writer had a Real Mango Rose Cake No.1 and a White Crepe Roll packed in a cooler bag (3,000 won, requested for 2 hours), then split the crepe roll with her husband in under a minute in the car and finished the whole mango cake at home. Fresh mango with lightly sweet milk cream never turns cloying, making Chef Cho a solid pick for fruit cake.

Hi, this is Geum-i! I wanted a sweet dessert time at home after a while, so I went to Sweet Park at Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, famous for its cakes. Out of all the dessert shops there, I had one goal: Chef Cho, the 2023 Master Confectioner who's appeared on TV and is known as one of the '4 Kings of Cake.'

I'll give you a vivid review of packing the Real Mango Rose Cake and White Crepe Roll — both of which we polished off in no time thanks to their gorgeous looks and melt-in-your-mouth taste.

Where is Chef Cho? Right at the Sweet Park entrance, B1 Shinsegae Gangnam

Chef Cho sits right at the entrance of Sweet Park on B1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam. Sweet Park connects directly to Express Bus Terminal Station, so it's really easy to find.

Chef Cho caught my eye immediately since it's right at the entrance. I visited in the afternoon, and true to its reputation as a popular cake shop, the display case was packed with customers.

There were so many pretty fruit cakes — strawberry, fig, peach and more — that it was fun just browsing. Seeing everyone grab boxes without hesitation, I could really feel how popular this place is.

There were also slice cakes and crepe rolls. Recommended for anyone who finds a whole cake too much!

Summer takeout at Chef Cho: the 3,000-won cooler bag is a must

When packing a fresh cream cake at Chef Cho, adding a cooler bag (₩3,000) is essential — especially in weather this hot!

I asked for a generous 2 hours, and even in the sweltering heat, it made it home safely without melting.

Chef Cho's White Crepe Roll, gone in a minute in the car

Chef Cho's White Crepe Roll is a fruit crepe roll packed generously with mango, strawberry, and kiwi. I bought it along with the cake, hypnotized by how it looked.

I'd meant to save it for home, but the fresh fruit peeking through the thin, soft crepe looked so delicious that I couldn't resist and tore into it the moment I got in the car, haha.

Mango, strawberry, and kiwi were packed in generously, and the balance between the fruit and the non-greasy, soft milk cream was absolutely perfect. It burst with freshness and melted away in our mouths — my husband and I finished it off in a literal one-minute cut.

Real Mango Rose Cake: what the cross-section and the taste are like

Chef Cho's Real Mango Rose Cake is decorated on top with mango arranged like a single blooming rose. The long-awaited highlight! It was picture-perfect, so our eyes feasted first.

The moment the knife touched it, the cake sliced through as if it were collapsing softly — we were both so surprised! The sponge was fluffy like a cloud,

and between every layer of the cake there was plenty of sweet fresh mango tucked in.

The light, clean sponge made with organic flour and the not-too-sweet, high-quality milk cream came together so harmoniously that there was no chance of getting sick of it.

My husband and I kept saying 'this is really good' over and over and ate the whole thing right there on the spot!

Tips before you visit Chef Cho at Shinsegae Gangnam

  • Go early or make sure to reserve for pickup — if you go in the afternoon, the popular fruit cakes sell out fast! I got lucky and grabbed the last mango cake myself.
  • The White Crepe Roll isn't optional, it's a must — if a whole cake feels like too much, be sure to try Chef Cho's cream in a lighter, fresher way with the fruit-packed White Crepe Roll!

Since it's a food-safety business designated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, you can trust the ingredients, and above all, the quality of the fruit and fresh cream is exceptional, leaving a flavor you won't forget once you've tried it. If you're looking for a pretty birthday cake for a special day or a delicious fruit dessert, I truly and strongly recommend Chef Cho at Sweet Park, Shinsegae Gangnam!
