Malbok beef grill dinner with soju in Chimsan-dong, Daegu: Gogi 9dan
In short
Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is a beef grill restaurant in Chimsan-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. For malbok, the last dog day of summer, five adults and one baby skipped samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and shared half-plates of anchangsal (skirt steak) and kkotgalbisal (flower short rib) before adding a full extra plate of kkotgalbisal, along with the 17,000-won value 9dan set, doenjang-mari rice and patbingsu. With baby chairs, kids' trays and a playroom, Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch works well for a family meal with young children.

On malbok, the last of the year's hottest days, I went to eat beef with my family instead of the usual samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup)!!

Where is Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, and where do you park?
Gogi 9dan is located in Chimsan-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu — 3 minutes by car from Daegu Opera House and 1 minute from Daegu Samsung Changjo Campus. You can drive there, but it's also easy to reach by bus. Get off at Dongchimsan Intersection stop and it's just a 4-minute walk haha. Look for Chimsan Kolon Hanulchae 2-cha or the National Health Insurance Service building to find it more easily.
And there's dedicated parking on the 1st floor, so parking is convenient. I went with my family by bus. My husband, who came straight from work, had no choice but to drive, and he was happy he didn't have to worry about parking.
Seating and the playroom for families with kids
The inside of the restaurant was so spacious!! Since a lot of family gatherings and company dinners come through, most tables were two 4-person tables pushed together haha. Each table had a partition, so we could eat a bit more privately with our own group. There were also long-backed sofa chairs, which were comfortable, and baby chairs were ready too.
Not just a baby chair — they had a baby tray, utensils and more, so it's great to visit with kids haha. They thoughtfully brought out seaweed for the baby too.
There was also a small playroom for kids, with an arcade game, a claw machine, and a drawing corner.

Menu and prices: what we ordered at Gogi 9dan
They had saenggalbi, anchangsal (skirt steak), kkotgalbi (flower short rib), hwangje galbisal, seokcheong galbi, instant seasoned galbi and more, plus raw pork belly and raw pork neck alongside the beef. Beef seemed to be the main focus haha. Platters were priced at ₩98,000, ₩94,000, ₩90,000 and so on — it can look expensive, but per 100g it was actually reasonable!!! We first ordered one platter of anchangsal and one of kkotgalbi haha.

Eight side dishes, including yangnyeom gejang (marinated raw crab)
The basic side dishes were baek-kimchi (white kimchi), yangnyeom gejang (seasoned raw crab), salad, japchae, pa-kimchi, broccoli, onion jang, and more. The food came out neatly plated and the side dishes were delicious!! It felt kind of like visiting a Korean home-style restaurant haha. The yangnyeom gejang was packed with meat, had no fishy smell, and the seasoning was great. I asked for a refill!!! The japchae was tasty too.

What comes with the 17,000-won 9dan set
We also ordered the value 9-course set haha. It comes with hanwoo yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), pork kimchi jjigae, spicy jjolmyeon, and sushi with fresh wasabi, all for ₩17,000. You can order one set per beef platter. It was great being able to taste a little of four different dishes!!

Anchangsal and kkotgalbisal, split as half-plates
Two platters of anchangsal and kkotgalbisal came out haha. There were five adults and one baby, so we sat at two tables, and they thoughtfully split each platter half anchangsal, half kkotgalbisal.
The anchangsal came already sliced, so it was quick to grill and eat right away. The kkotgalbisal, unusually, came out as a whole chunk haha.

The moment the quickly-grilled anchangsal was ready, I was nodding right away haha. So tender and delicious!!!! And putting the meat on top of the sushi was delicious too.
Beef has to come with soju, right haha. Since the meat was so good, the soju went down sweet and smooth!! My younger sibling joined after finishing work, and the four of us drank two bottles of soju each hahaha.

Adding one more full plate of kkotgalbisal
The kkotgalbisal was juicier and more delicious haha. We ordered one more platter of kkotgalbisal!! We didn't realize it with the first platter, but a full plate of just kkotgalbisal looked like even more meat haha. Since it came as a chunk, it took longer to grill, but it was nice being able to cut it into whatever size we wanted.

Eating beef non-stop can get tiring fast, but simmering the kimchi jjigae from the value set alongside it in the middle made it go down even better haha.

Finishing with doenjang-mari rice and patbingsu
To finish, we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and two bowls of rice haha. There was so much doenjang jjigae that we mixed in both bowls of rice to make doenjang-mari bap (rice mixed into stew). Honestly, since everything else had been so tasty, I thought the doenjang jjigae itself was a bit underwhelming at first, but after simmering it longer, it was fine.

Right as we were finishing the doenjang-mari rice, they brought out patbingsu (shaved ice with red beans) too haha. Perfect for a final palate cleanser.

And we could also have ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack), coffee, and plum tea for dessert. Even as full as we were, the ppeongtwigi was delicious hahaha. Everything, dish by dish, was tasty, and the beef was tender and delicious, so my parents ate very happily too!!
