Whole flounder sashimi to go for a Sokcho beach picnic: Han's Kitchen
In short
Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch is a live-fish sashimi takeout shop on Cheongchoho-banro near Sokcho Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, with pickup at Han's Fish Market (Hans Susan Market). The writer booked on Naver, picked up one whole big olive flounder over 1.2kg (1.5–2 servings) and ate it on a mat on Sokcho beach, finding thick-cut flounder sashimi, a generous bed of cabbage underneath, and garlic, chili peppers and lettuce wraps already packed, so there was almost nothing else to prepare. For anyone who wants to eat sashimi by the sea instead of in a restaurant, Han's Kitchen Hoepojang is a good choice.

Taking halibut sashimi from Han's Kitchen in Sokcho Jungang Market to eat by the sea
I reserved a whole halibut over 1.2kg in advance via Naver at Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch, picked it up, and ate it for dinner on the Sokcho shoreline. While traveling in Sokcho, I really wanted to have dinner looking at the sea. Since I was in Sokcho I wanted sashimi, but instead of eating inside a sashimi restaurant, I wanted to try taking it out and eating on the beach haha.

What I ordered was one whole halibut over 1.2kg, a set good for about 1.5-2 servings. Along with the sashimi itself, they included a set of wasabi, chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), and soy sauce, plus garlic, chili, ssamjang, and wrap vegetables. As you can see in the photos, the portion was quite generous, and especially with the cabbage piled thick underneath the sashimi, it was great to eat that cabbage once I finished the fish.

How do you order from Han's Kitchen Hoepojang? Naver reservation then pickup
Han's Kitchen is a takeout-only shop, so instead of eating in the store, you order ahead and pick up. I reserved through Naver before visiting and arrived at the scheduled time.
According to the shop, they prepare the live fish once your order comes in, so it can take a bit of time, and Naver reservations get priority. There was a refrigerated storage area inside, and when I arrived, packaged orders were already ready. They mentioned same-day orders can be especially difficult on weekends or holidays, so if you're planning to get sashimi to-go at Sokcho Jungang Market, it seems easier to reserve ahead.
Inside Han's Fish Market: tanks full of live fish and abalone
Inside Han's Fish Market, the pickup location for Han's Kitchen, there were several tanks. As soon as I walked in to pick up, the tanks caught my eye right away.

As shown in the photos, there were several kinds of live fish including halibut in the tanks, and abalone filled one side as well. Seeing the fresh live fish in the tanks really gave off that dedicated sashimi-takeout-shop feel.

The shop wasn't big, but it had several tanks and was set up so ordering and pickup could go quickly. Just a note — since there's no separate parking, if you drive, it's best to think of it as a quick stop out front to grab your order!

What's included with Han's Kitchen's whole big halibut?
Han's Kitchen's whole halibut over 1.2kg is described as good for about 1.5-2 servings. Along with the sashimi, sauces and wrap ingredients are included too.
- Halibut sashimi 1.2kg+
- Wasabi
- Chojang
- Soy sauce
- Garlic
- Chili
- Wrap vegetables
- Ssamjang

The big halibut, taken to Sokcho beach
Instead of heading straight to our accommodation, I carried the whole halibut I got from Han's Kitchen out to the Sokcho beach.

We laid out a mat and ate right in front of the sea, and it really gave off proper travel vibes haha. As shown in the photos, one big plate was packed full of halibut sashimi, with garlic and chili neatly arranged on the side, so there was almost nothing else to prepare separately.
The color of the sashimi was clear and glossy, so it looked fresh too. Eating at a sashimi restaurant in Sokcho Jungang Market is nice, but eating it packed like this in front of the sea felt like a completely different vibe.
Thick-sliced halibut sashimi
Han's Kitchen's halibut sashimi wasn't sliced thin only — it had some real thickness, so each piece held its shape well when picked up. Looking at each slice, the flesh appeared semi-translucent, and you could really feel the chewy texture.
Especially because of the thickness, it wasn't too soft when chewed and had a nice springy feel. I ate some pieces plain and dipped others lightly in chojang.

As shown in the photos, dipping a piece of sashimi lightly in chojang brought out a savory kick that kept my hand reaching for more. And eating it right in front of the sea somehow made it taste even better.
Halibut sashimi as wraps too
The big halibut set from Han's Kitchen came with lettuce too, so I ate it as wraps several times. Putting halibut sashimi on lettuce, adding chili and garlic, then a bit of chojang or ssamjang, made for a pretty filling bite. After eating sashimi straight for a while, switching to wraps was nice since I got to eat vegetables too.

As shown in the photos above, putting sashimi on a big lettuce leaf made it much more filling and satisfying than eating a single piece at a time.
Cabbage piled underneath the sashimi
What I personally loved about Han's Kitchen's halibut was that there was a really generous amount of shredded cabbage laid underneath the sashimi. At first the sashimi covered it so I couldn't quite see it, but as I kept eating, more shredded cabbage kept appearing underneath.
So I ended up eating the leftover chojang together with the cabbage too. It wasn't just a small decorative amount — there was way more than expected, so it felt like getting a cabbage salad along with the meal, which I really liked.
The vegetables underneath are meant for mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), and if you want to make mulhoe, the broth needs to be ordered separately. That day I just ate the sashimi with the cabbage as is, and that alone was plenty satisfying.
Why beach-side beat a restaurant for Sokcho sashimi takeout
This time, instead of a restaurant, I took out sashimi from Han's Kitchen and ate it on the Sokcho beach, and personally, this felt like the better travel experience. Eating slowly right in front of the sea while watching the waves felt relaxed, and it was great for photos too.

If you're looking around Sokcho Jungang Market for food to bring back to your accommodation or the beach, sashimi takeout seems like a good option. There's no separate table-setting fee, and being able to eat comfortably wherever you want was a real plus.
Overall thoughts on Han's Kitchen's whole big halibut
The whole halibut over 1.2kg I ordered from Han's Kitchen had a more generous portion than I expected, and the sashimi was sliced with enough thickness to enjoy that chewy texture. They also included garlic, chili, wrap vegetables, ssamjang, chojang, and soy sauce, so there wasn't much else to prepare. I especially liked that so much cabbage was piled underneath the sashimi — good to eat alongside the fish, and at the end, it was almost like eating a salad!
If you want to get sashimi takeout from Sokcho Jungang Market and eat comfortably at your accommodation or on the beach like I did, reserving via Naver before pickup is a good approach. Reserved orders get priority, so it's best to arrive around your scheduled time, and since there's no parking at the shop, I'd recommend a quick stop out front for a fast pickup.
Eating on a mat by the beach gave off a totally different travel vibe than eating at most sashimi restaurants in Sokcho Jungang Market haha. If you're looking for a hearty plate of sashimi as part of your Sokcho Jungang Market food adventure, consider Han's Kitchen Hoepojang.
