Why I needed a root touch-up

It feels like I just dyed my hair, but time really flies 😂 One day I looked in the mirror and the overall color was still fine, but my roots had grown out quite a bit and looked messier than I expected. My hair tends to turn red easily, so once the roots start growing out, it bothers me even more… 🥲

So this time I visited Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch (아뉴헤어 청담본점), a hair salon near Gangnam-gu Office Station :)

Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch is at 5 Seolleung-ro 127-gil, 2nd floor, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Gangnam-gu Office Station. It's also within walking distance of Seonjeongneung Station, so access is really good. It's close to Cheongdam, Nonhyeon and Apgujeong too, so it looks handy if you have plans nearby.

I booked ahead through Naver Booking. Weekday evenings and weekends reportedly fill up fast, so I'd recommend reserving early :) There's also a parking lot on the building's 1st floor, so you can come by car 🚗

The first thing I noticed on arriving at Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch was how clean everything is! The exterior looked stylish, and the interior was tidy with no clutter. The big windows meant it didn't feel stuffy at all. It's not that closed-in salon feeling; natural light comes in, so I could relax much more during the treatment 🤍

How does the consultation before root dye work?

Before the treatment, I first filled out a consultation journal. They checked my hair condition, scalp condition, usual styling routine, the style I wanted, and the areas I wanted covered, more thoroughly than I expected. I'd thought root dye was a simple service, but the care started from the consultation, and I was happy with it from the first impression.

I heard Anew Hair's designers come from Juno Hair and Cha Hong, and that the salon offers personal hair consulting. Maybe that's why they carefully checked my face shape, current hair color and dye history during the consultation.

Asking for matte root dye to calm the redness

I told them the red tones coming through were my biggest worry, and asked them to cut the redness as much as possible and blend into a calm, matte shade :) After the consultation, the treatment began, and they kept checking whether I was uncomfortable or if my scalp stung, so I felt at ease.

During the treatment they also brought coffee, drinks and light snacks ☕ Little touches like this are surprisingly nice haha

There's also a restroom inside the salon, which was convenient. They applied the dye carefully and worked so it would blend naturally with the rest of my color. A professional's touch really is different 😂

Root dye result: did the redness settle down?

After the root dye at Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch, the line between my roots and the existing color was almost invisible, and the redness was much calmer. The moment I looked in the mirror, I understood why people say you should get even root dye done somewhere good. The color blended naturally, and best of all, the redness I wanted gone was toned down, so my hair felt calmer and neater! It wasn't too dark or heavy, just the matte color I wanted, and I was happy with it 💘

Bangs trim and blow-dry: about 1 hour in total

Including root dye, a bangs trim and a blow-dry, it took about 1 hour from the consultation. I had my bangs tidied up too. After the bangs trim, my whole look felt much neater! It's a small change, but the vibe is different.

At the end they finished with a lovely blow-dry. Usually I head straight home after a hair appointment, but this day I liked the blow-dry so much that I went directly to my next appointment haha. It finished much faster than I expected, so it looks easy for busy office workers too. I also heard the high oil price relief support fund can be used here, so check if that applies to you :)
