Window-seat café in Sutonggol, Daejeon: giant chimney bread, Luonto

Today I want to log Café Luonto on the restaurant street in Sutonggol, Daejeon! Sutonggol gets a lot of hikers, and there are so many good restaurants nearby that it's a great spot to eat and then move straight on to a café haha. Since it's such a good location to stop by after a hike or as a dessert course after a meal, I'd been curious about it.

Especially since I heard the chimney bread here is famous — I told myself, this time I have to try it! — and headed over haha.

How to get to Luonto in Sutonggol, Daejeon

Come in through the Sutonggol entrance and head down the alley by Maha Café / the wood-fired pizza place, and you'll see it right away! It's a three-story building, bigger than I expected, so it stands out even from a distance. The restroom is inside on the 2nd floor, so I didn't have to step outside to use it — for a café where you sit for a long time, restroom location is oddly important 🤭

Once inside, exposed concrete ceilings pair with wooden chairs and tables in a nice balance.

I sat at a 2nd-floor window seat, and since sunlight came right in, my coffee photos turned out really pretty 📸

The 2nd floor is more spacious, and with the chandelier and plants it feels much more upscale. I heard the 2nd floor can also be rented out for weddings, and seeing it in person, I immediately understood why haha.

Luonto's fountain garden is the biggest draw

Step outside and there's a path lined with fountains on both sides, with mountains spreading out behind it — it feels totally like being somewhere abroad. There are outdoor seats under a white canopy too, and with the white frame installation, it looks like a great spot for events.

You can also order directly at a kiosk on the 2nd floor, and there's even a baby crib set up there haha.

Luonto menu and prices

The Luonto Sutonggol Branch menu is pretty diverse — coffee, non-coffee drinks, ades, teas, even ice cream! The prices on the menu photos came out a bit higher than what's listed on Naver Maps! Might be good to keep that price gap roughly in mind before you go!

Good to know: you can switch to decaf beans (+500) or oat milk (+500). The beans are roasted in-house, and you could choose between the nutty Luonto blend, the acidic Geisha blend, or the decaf blend.

Near the register they also sell cookies separately haha.

Ordering iced Americano, affogato and plain chimney bread

This time I ordered an iced Americano (Geisha blend), an affogato, and the plain chimney bread!

How big is Luonto's chimney bread? 🥖

I'd expected a lot since it's supposedly famous, but the moment it arrived I was shocked by the size lol. It was bigger than the rain umbrella I'd brought along lol. It felt like about two servings!

The outside wasn't oily at all and was on the plain side, while the inside was chewy and soft — the texture was really nice.

They serve it with whipped cream, and while the bread is plenty tasty on its own, dipping it in the cream now and then kept my hand reaching back for more haha. Since the bread itself is plain, it wasn't heavy even with the cream, so I enjoyed it all the way through.

Geisha blend iced Americano at Luonto

I chose the acidic Geisha blend! It had a subtle acidity and less bitterness, so it went down clean. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes acidic coffee ☕

Luonto's affogato

The espresso is served separately, so you pour it yourself. Pouring it over the milky ice cream, it melted away into a sweet-bitter combo. Alternating with the chimney bread made for a perfect dessert pairing haha.

If you're looking for a nice-vibe café in Sutonggol after a hike or a meal, give Luonto a try! With its spacious, upscale space and even a fountain garden, it's great for photos, and above all, the chimney bread was really delicious 🤎 I think I'll be back again since I want to try the cinnamon chimney bread next time haha.
