Why we stopped at Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu on the way to Kintex
I was heading to Ilsan with my mom and my sister for the 2026 Cafe Bakery Fair at Kintex, and we were so hungry that we stopped first at Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu (아우성 개성손만두), a restaurant near Kintex. We drove from Wirye to Ilsan and back along Olympic-daero and Jayu-ro, and the number of accidents on the way was insane,,
Seriously, I saw 7 accidents on the round trip. And every one of them had at least one pretty crumpled car. It was the worst traffic day ever.

Anyway, we were going to head straight to Kintex, but we were way too hungry to make it. So I looked for a place to eat near Kintex in Ilsan, heard there was a good kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) place for lunch in Goyang, and we went!!!!!

Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu does kalguksu and hot pots. Doesn't it look really good?

Why we switched from a 24-hour kalguksu shop to pork belly
I was amazed that Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu is a 24-hour kalguksu place, and maybe that's why they sell pork belly too. It's my first 24-hour kalguksu shop ever. It was packed with people, too.
When we walked in, lots of people were eating dumpling kalguksu and others were having pork belly. We had originally come for kalguksu and dumplings, but

we saw a company dinner with pork belly at the next table and suddenly switched the order to pork belly!

Crazy how many people there are, right? Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu is famous for its dumplings and kalguksu, but it's also a great pork belly spot for lunch in Goyang.
Three servings of pork belly and how it's grilled
We ordered 3 servings of pork belly. For 3 servings, the portion is quite big.

The pork belly was grilling nicely, and it had been a while since I'd eaten pork belly out, so it was sooo good. First of all, the grilled kimchi is so good.

My sister does the grilling, and she grills meat unbelievably well. She's one of the grill masters, I tell you.

Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu menu and prices
Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu has handmade dumpling hot pot and kalguksu, and the kalguksu is unlimited if each person orders one serving~!~!~!!!!

Pork belly is ₩17,000 per serving, and if you order it, steamed egg comes out too. The side dishes came out pretty generously as well.

Grilling bean sprouts, scallion salad and kimchi on the same grill
When the meat is nicely cooked, they add more side dishes to the grill.

The sides were bean sprouts, scallions and seaweed, and you know how good it is to grill the sprouts and seasoned scallion salad on the pork belly grill, right? You absolutely have to grill them together!!
My sister was grilling and cutting everything so appetizingly. Since we were kids she's never handed me the scissors and tongs, saying she'd cut all the meat. Because if I did it, I'd burn everything and cut it however I felt.

Ooh,, meat really tastes best when someone who can grill it properly does it.

We grilled the pork belly with the sprouts and scallion salad, and every single side dish at Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu was so good. The dumplings must be really good too, so I definitely have to come back for dumplings and kalguksu next time.

The meat gets cut into bite-size pieces and the kimchi is grilling nicely. They gave us sour, aged kimchi that goes perfectly with meat, so it's even better 🫢

How was the free steamed egg?
At Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu, ordering pork belly got us a free steamed egg in an earthenware pot (ttukbaegi). We were going to order rice and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), but they had fried rice, so we decided on that. I love steamed egg so much!!!

It's soft and hot, and so good 🫢🔥 Steamed egg in a hot earthenware pot is honey-sweet no matter when you eat it, isn't it?

A full load of kimchi on the grill, plus the scallion salad and seasoned bean sprouts getting grilled too.
I picked up a nicely cooked piece of kimchi

and a piece of pork belly my sister grilled so well, stacked the kimchi on top, and popped it into my mouth.

Finishing with grill-top fried rice after the pork belly
At Auseong Gaeseong Sonmandu, they stir-fry the fried rice right on the grill once the meat is gone. I love fried rice made this way so, so much. You know how amazing fried rice tastes after grilling meat, right?

If you press it down with the spatula, it even forms crispy nurungji (scorched rice), which makes it even better. They fried it up nicely, and I topped it with meat and it was sooo good.

I thought the fried rice would be even better with cheese on top. I really loooove it.
