In short
Sanggu's Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal Guui Branch is a cauldron-lid pork belly restaurant near Guui Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. After a tiring weekday, the writer and her husband waited about 10 minutes and ordered the 43,000 won half-plate set with pork neck and pork belly; staff grilled the meat, and minari (Korean water dropwort) and fried rice came included. With 300ml draft beer at 1,900 won and bottled soju or beer at 2,900 won, Sanggu's is a great-value Guui Korean BBQ spot for anyone who loves pork belly with soju.

Why Sanggu's Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal Guui Branch keeps pulling us back
Sanggu's Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal Guui Branch (상구네솥뚜껑삼겹살 구의점) is a pork belly place in Guui where draft beer (300ml) is ₩1,900 and bottled soju or beer is ₩2,900, so it's perfect for anyone who loves samssо (soju with samgyeopsal, grilled pork belly). The half-plate set is great value too, and I recommend it. I'd already been twice before, and we keep going back because it's tasty and good value.

Sanggu's is always busy, even on weekday evenings. This time we had to wait, but luckily it was within about 10 minutes. Fridays and weekends must be even busier, right? If you hate waiting, I recommend going early!
Come out of Guui Station Exit 2 and walk toward Gwangjin Post Office. The East Pole shopping center is right nearby too, so it's perfect for browsing after your meal.

What wraps, vegetables and side dishes are on the self-bars?

The place was packed that day. Everybody must have been craving pork belly, haha.

This is the self-bar where you can refill wraps and vegetables. There's fresh napa cabbage, perilla leaves and lettuce, plus eggplant and sweet pumpkin that are great grilled. Grilled eggplant is honestly a treat.

This area is for refilling side dishes. There's such a variety that it feels almost like a buffet, haha.

And this is the basic setup.
Half-plate set: pork neck and pork belly, grilled for you

The half-plate set arrived. We chose pork neck and pork belly, and both look so delicious. There's also a guard that keeps the meat grease from splattering.

I loaded up from the self-bar with enoki mushrooms, eggplant, wraps and more, hahaha.

And the draft beer I almost resisted because the day had been so exhausting. At ₩1,900 for 300ml, I couldn't not order it. Every table had drinks, haha. With a bottle of soju going up to ₩6,000 these days, this is such good value.
Sanggu's, a Guui favorite, is good value and they grill the meat for you! It was a day when I really didn't feel like doing anything, so having them grill and cut it was so convenient. I think that's why we can't quit BBQ restaurants even though meat at home is cheapest, haha.
How to eat the half-plate set's minari

The half-plate set includes minari (water dropwort, a fragrant leafy green). Minari isn't on the self-bar, so you'd have to order it separately, which makes the set even better value. The tastiest way is to lay it on cooked pork belly, let it wilt for a moment, and eat it right away!

I started with the pork belly. The meat quality is good, so it's tasty on its own and fragrant with the minari.
Unlimited wraps and grilled eggplant

But honestly, whenever I come to Sanggu's I make a crazy amount of wraps, hahaha. The wraps are unlimited and in good condition, so stuffing in all sorts of things is the best way to eat.

Please grill this eggplant and try it too.

My husband's wrap is even more loaded, hahaha. He crams in absolutely everything.
Finishing the half-plate set with fried rice

Fried rice to finish is a must. Sanggu's half-plate set even includes fried rice! Fried rice cooked in pork belly grease can't possibly be bad.
Meat, vegetables, fried rice and beer: we always leave Sanggu's stuffed. If you're looking for a good Guui restaurant or Guui pork belly spot, why not give it a try?
