Nowon hair salon post-honeymoon layered cut, magic C-curl: Yeum Hair

A Nowon Station hair salon visit to chop it all off after the wedding

On a day off after the wedding and honeymoon, I got a mid-length layered cut and magic setting (a heat-straightening perm) at Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch (예움헤어 노원구청점), a hair salon near Nowon Station. The very first thing I wanted to do once the wedding was over was chop my hair off 💇🏻‍♀️

I get the mid-length itch regularly and cut it off, so having to hold back all that time was extra frustrating. And then we got back from the honeymoon and the humidity, what is going on?? It feels like living in a fish tank. I couldn't take it anymore, so since I had the day off, I dashed off to get my hair done!

Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch: hours and days off

Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch opens at 10:00 every day and closes at 19:00 on Monday and Wednesday, 21:00 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 20:00 on weekends. Monday is the regular day off, but they said they run it flexibly, so check before you go.

I booked ahead through Naver, and since I was planning a mid-length layered cut, I reserved designer Sarang, who is famous for layered perms.

Where Yeum Hair is and what the salon feels like

Yeum Hair is right next to Nowon District Office Station, and you find it by going up to the 2nd floor of the building (447 Nohae-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul, Suite 201).

The salon is spacious and pleasant. One side has a huge window where you can look outside, which I loved.

Before: magic setting loosening from the middle, semi-curly hair

Before the treatment my hair had gotten really, really long and messy.. I'd previously had a root magic + C-curl, and did root magic once more in February. The roots are fine, but from the middle down the straightening was loosening, and with the moisture on top it was a total disaster. Honestly, I hate semi-curly hair so much! When I have a baby I really hope they get straight hair..

Designer Sarang's mid-length layered cut and consultation

At Yeum Hair we started by cutting my hair lighter and doing the layered cut. Designer Sarang is seriously a cut specialist ♥️ She shaped the layers to suit my face really well.

I always want a C-curl, but my hair takes perms so well that it always comes out as S-curls, so it's a loop of regret and trying again, times 18,349 ㅠ This time I explained my worries in detail, and she still suggested trying a C-curl with magic setting once more, so we went for it. And since it's summer and I hate my roots going flat, I added a root perm and a clinic (hair treatment) too. Full-set healing, here we go~~

After the cut, the product was applied and the treatment done at a window seat. The window is huge and the street trees out front are pretty, so I sipped tea, read a magazine and zoned out watching the rain. Days off are this good, huh 😌 Right then I heard my apartment suddenly had a power outage, and I was so glad to be out of the house!

After the product was applied, while rinsing she first did a moisture clinic to fill the ends of my hair with moisture, and after shampooing she did the root perm first. I'd always wanted a root perm, and it was fascinating how delicately she did it with a bongo iron, zip zip. After the root perm she pulled the sides straight with the flat iron, starting from the side hair, and curled the ends naturally.

And then the ends got another try at the C-curl.. She said she uses light, short heat treatment to make a natural curl.

After the heat perm I went for neutralizing and the last clinic step, and omg, the clinic room at Yeum Hair is a private single room with a massage chair in it 🫢 I've had clinics many times but never seen one like this..!

There was even a wireless charger for my phone, and lying back for the clinic with a massage chair going, so refreshing ✨ Magic setting takes so long that I'm always stiff by the end, but this melted all the tiredness away. Loved it.

After: C-curl and root volume after about 3 hours

About 3 hours after the layered cut, magic setting C-curl, root perm and clinic, the big After reveal! My hair feels sooooo light, and the layers and texturing were done so well, can you see every single strand alive? And the root volume is so puffy and full it feels like I just had a blow-dry 👍🏻 I didn't get it as a kid, but why are grown-ups so obsessed with volume ㅠ I've now reached the age where I fully get it

Designer Sarang, who did my layered cut + magic setting C-curl today.. is truly lovely just like her name (Sarang means love), and the conversation was so fun it felt like chatting with a friend rather than being at a salon. She's getting married soon, so I passed on my own secret tips(?) ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ🤣 what a chatterbox I am ;; I always did a C-curl, failed, tried again and regretted it, on repeat, but she did it so cleanly and well, and I'm really happy with it!!

In 2 to 3 months I'll go back for another cut and trim it lightly. I cut my mid-length regularly, but cutting it as a married woman suddenly makes me feel like an ahjumma (middle-aged woman) 🙄 Well, my husband said it looks pretty, so I'm satisfied~~~~
