Gwangjin hair salon for thick men's hair: M2B Hair

Whenever my husband gets a haircut, his thick hair is always a concern. It would clearly be cut nice and neatly, but before long the sides would stick out and make him look like a pineapple; if it was cut wrong, it could look like he was wearing a bowl on his head, which was disappointing so many times. This time, he received everything from a hair consultation to a down perm at M2B Hair (엠투비헤어), a hair salon near Hwayang-dong by Konkuk University, and he was so happy that he said he wanted to settle on this place as soon as he was done.

Where is M2B Hair located?

M2B Hair is on the second floor of The Maison Konkuk at 174 Dongil-ro, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. If you are coming by subway, Children's Grand Park Station on Line 7 is convenient, and it took about 10 minutes to walk from the station to the salon.

It is in the Hwayang-dong area near Konkuk University, so it is also in a good spot for anyone looking for a hair salon around Konkuk University.

The entrance can be a little confusing, but if you go in toward the parking area, you will see the building entrance right away, so that is the way to go.

The atmosphere inside this men's hair salon

When I walked into M2B Hair, the first impression was that everything felt clean and orderly. The salon was not especially large, but it did not feel cramped; if anything, because it specializes in men's hair, it had a slightly different atmosphere from a regular salon.

I had mostly only seen the salons I usually go to, so coming to a place specializing in men's hair with my husband felt new to me.

Rather than feeling flashy, it was clean and had an atmosphere where men could comfortably come in to get their hair done, so my husband was able to have his service without feeling any pressure.

A hair consultation for very thick hair

The part I was most satisfied with this time was the hair consultation. My husband has really thick hair, so after a haircut, the sides or top would often puff up and make him look like a pineapple.

The photos above are the before photos. He had a short two-block cut, but as it grew out, it looked messy and as though someone had put a lid on his head.

Until now, we had simply thought there was nothing to be done because his hair was so thick. But this time, they looked at his hair and immediately identified what was making it stick out, then explained how it should be shaped going forward. Best of all, it did not end with giving him one nice haircut—they also told him how to manage his hair from now on.

I also liked that they explained in detail how often he should get a down perm according to the condition of his hair, rather than saying he should get one frequently no matter what. I still remember the first thing my husband said to me when he came out after the service.

He said Designer Hyeonseo seemed to have studied hair really extensively.

He is someone who usually does not say much even after going to a salon, so hearing that made me think he must have really loved it this time.

A down perm to tame lifted side hair

My husband has such thick hair that he had received down perms before, too. The problem was that it looked neat at first, but the side hair would soon start sticking out again, making the down perm feel like a waste.

This time, they gave him a down perm while taking the areas where his hair sticks out into account, and the side line looked clearly neater right after the service. Rather than feeling as though they had simply pressed down his thick hair, I liked how naturally the overall shape was tidied up.

Most importantly, they also showed him how to style it at home. Before, there were times when his hair looked nice only at the salon, then returned to how it was after he washed it the next day. This time, though, my husband has been styling it himself using the method they taught him and wearing it well.

Once the styling was finished, it had exactly the modern men's hairstyle feel I had always thought would suit my husband.

The round, bowl-like puffiness was reduced, and he looked neat overall but much more polished. The line at the back was also trimmed really neatly.

Honestly, I did not realize choosing a salon for my husband would be this difficult. Because his hair is so thick, I had experienced quite a big difference in results depending on where he got it cut. This time, what satisfied me most was that they did not just give him a cut and down perm, but explained why his hair sticks out and what direction to take with its care.

My husband was so happy that I think M2B Hair will be his regular Konkuk University-area salon from now on.
