Weekend 8 p.m. Sinnonhyeon café, caramel cheese pie: Upper and Under
In short
Upper and Under is a multi-floor dessert café between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekend visit with friends around 8 p.m., most desserts and cakes were sold out, but the group had the remaining caramel cheese pie (7,200 won), tiramisu (8,500 won) and a mango sherbet latte that seemed to be a summer special on the 2nd floor. Upper and Under is on the pricey side but tasty enough to justify it, so it's worth recommending to anyone who loves desserts and unusual drinks.

Is Upper and Under, a Sinnonhyeon Station café, still busy on a weekend night?
Upper and Under is a Sinnonhyeon Station café so busy that the 1st floor was nearly full even late on a weekend evening. I was looking for a café between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station where friends could chat, so we tried Upper and Under near Sinnonhyeon Station.

It has lots of Naver and Google Maps reviews and is well known, and sure enough the 1st floor was almost entirely taken late on a weekend, so we went up to the 2nd floor.

By the way, Upper and Under, a popular café near Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Stations, has spaces on floors 1 to 3, and each floor has slightly different features.

Will any desserts be left at 8 p.m.?
When we got to Upper and Under around 8 p.m. on the weekend, most of the desserts that often show up in Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station café recommendations were sold out. That was a bit of a shame.

Still, there were plenty of desserts that looked delicious at a glance, so my friends and I spent some time deciding what to try~

The caramel cheese pie was still there, so someone suggested trying that instead of the financiers (small almond butter cakes)~

My friend agreed, so we ordered the caramel cheese pie first.

Upper and Under dessert prices
The dessert display is stylishly arranged, just what you'd expect from a well-known café here~~ The fig pie is ₩8,300.

Crème brûlée flan is ₩6,900, and caramel cheese pie is ₩7,200.

Hwangchi cheese financier is ₩4,500, and sweet potato financier is ₩4,700.

I think there were canelés (small caramelized French pastries) here earlier.. but they're gone~ and the madeleines were all sold out too. I guess Upper and Under is a place you have to visit around lunchtime to see every dessert..

Whoa, maybe because it was the weekend, the cakes were completely sold out... Hardly any cake I wanted was left, just this. Two kinds remained, lemon cake at ₩8,500 and tiramisu at ₩8,500, so we ordered the tiramisu cake~

What is the 3rd floor of Upper and Under like?
The 3rd floor of Upper and Under is a clean, villa-like designed space, and it was full of people even at night. It reminded me again that Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station are packed with people at night too~
We decided to just sit comfortably on the 2nd floor. While my friends got settled and chatted, I went to check out the 3rd floor of Upper and Under.

With a neat, atmospheric design space like this, it makes sense that the 3rd floor had lots of people~ It was a lovely café space with a villa-like vibe.

How do the caramel cheese pie and tiramisu taste?
For drinks, I picked the mango sherbet latte, which looked special~ My friends mostly went for regular coffee~ I shot a quick video before we dug in~

I was really looking forward to the desserts at Upper and Under~~ My friends were happy too, saying they looked delicious.

A friend who loves cake carefully cut it into pieces, and we each tried one~ The price really is high, but the cakes were just as delicious.

Especially the caramel cheese pie: cheesecake flavor on the bottom, topped with sweet, chewy caramel, a wonderful pairing.

What is the mango sherbet latte?
The Upper and Under mango sherbet latte has a cold mango bar in place of ice, and it nailed that sweet-tart taste~

Plus, the mango was skewered on a stick, so pulling out the mango bar and biting into it was a lot of fun.

It seems to be a summer-only menu item, and with the weather about to turn cold I figured I wouldn't get another chance, so I ordered this mango sherbet latte, and I'm glad I did~

Biting into the mango bar while eating cake was a surprisingly good combo~

Of course the cakes were the main event~ We're clearly the type who are happiest eating cake dessert after a meal~

If you love desserts and cake, or special drinks, I recommend Upper and Under, a well-known café near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station~
