Kick Ass Jazz Club is a new live jazz bar that just opened in Gunja. A lethal dose of romance, and a brand-new Gunja drinking spot! When you say jazz bar, most people think of Itaewon, but I heard you can now catch live jazz in Gunja too, so I was curious and went... and it was a whole new world, pure heaven.
Gunja has been getting hotter and hotter, and now it even has a live jazz bar... Wow! I went to see a live show at Kick Ass Jazz Club, a jazz bar with a mood that works for a atmospheric date and for drinking solo in Gunja too.

Walk a little from Exit 3 of Gunja Station and suddenly, wait, there's a place like this?! Kick Ass Jazz Club, a cocktail bar in Gunja, appears. Jazz drifts out from the outside, and the vintage-style sign, moody neon and posters are so good you can't not go in!
Kick Ass Jazz Club live show days and cover charge
Live shows at Kick Ass Jazz Club are every Friday and Saturday, with a ₩12,000 per-person cover charge on top. The cover is said to go entirely to the musicians' performance fees. Besides jazz, you can enjoy pop, soul and blues in an atmospheric space.
On show days, each table must order either one bottle of whiskey or wine, or one plate or dish, plus one drink per person!
Kick Ass Jazz Club interior and seating
Stepping inside Kick Ass Jazz Club felt like entering another world. I doubt there's another Gunja bar like it: the live stage is at the front, mellow jazzy songs flow, and the space is emotional and romantic. The lighting is easy on the eyes, and the chairs are really comfortable too.
The bar seats have stools without backrests, but drinking solo there, I could watch cocktails being made and look over the whiskey bottles, and ordering was easy, so I liked it.
Reservations recommended for 2+; I took a bar seat to drink solo
For parties of two or more, I recommend reserving ahead at Kick Ass Jazz Club! I booked that day, but my friend had something come up and couldn't make it, so naturally I ended up drinking solo... I moved from the table straight to the bar seats, sob haha.
I came to the bar to drink alone, but I was still satisfied. Bar seats have their own romance, right? Haha The photos come out with a lethal dose of romance too!
Kick Ass Jazz Club menu
The food menu at Kick Ass Jazz Club has pizza, meat pie, stew, wings and more that can easily stand in for a meal, plus lighter options like a bacon Caesar salad, a fruit & cheese plate, and a bar snack set that only solo guests can order.
The drinks are wide-ranging: signature cocktails, beer, cocktails, whiskey, highballs, wine, vodka, tequila and gin. The whiskey selection is especially varied, and blended whiskeys start from under ₩10,000 a glass, so it's easy on the wallet!
First glass: the signature Kick Ass highball
I started light with the Kick Ass highball! It's the club's signature highball cocktail, made with a house-made cordial that layers the taste and aroma of apple, coconut and vanilla. The price is kind and it's refreshing, perfect for a first glass.
Popcorn is the complimentary snack, and it was so nutty and crunchy that I kept reaching for it. When I finished a whole basket, they refilled it with a big pile, thank you..*
The welcome drink came a little later than my order, but I downed it in one go anyway! The zesty lemon drop lifts your mood right up :)
How was the live show at Kick Ass Jazz Club?
Shows at Kick Ass Jazz Club start at 7:30 pm every Friday and Saturday, so I recommend arriving before that to grab a seat! There was still time before the show on the stage with its red curtain, so I had a drink and waited a bit.
Before long, the musicians and a jazz vocalist came out and started a wonderful show. It was live right in front of me, so the sound was so vivid, and the vocalist had amazing power and soul! The quality made the ₩12,000 per person feel completely worth it.
The bar snack set, only for solo guests
The bar snack set at Kick Ass Jazz Club can only be ordered as a solo-drinking snack in Gunja! It can't be ordered for two, so you only get to try it if you come alone, a solo-drinker limited edition, haha
It comes with thick cream cheese, crackers, fresh cherries and chocolate, great as a light snack! If you prettily assemble them into cream cheese cherry canapés, it tastes even sweeter and lifts your mood :)
If you come to Kick Ass Jazz Club, the Gunja cocktail bar, I recommend ordering this when drinking solo!
A Black Russian to jazz melodies
I ordered my all-time favorite cocktail, the Black Russian, at Kick Ass Jazz Club too. I fell into the flavor of the coffee liqueur... and the ice is a big square cube that melts slowly, so you can enjoy it with atmosphere. A recommended pick at this Gunja cocktail bar!
A Black Russian to jazz melodies... a Friday night with a lethal dose of romance...* Drinking it while watching the live show made the mood better and the drink tastier! The Black Russian felt just like a jazz melody.
With a soulful vocalist and a skilled band session, a live show to rival any Itaewon jazz bar, it was an even more enjoyable Saturday night.
The show ran in two sets, quite full, with instrumental pieces and pieces with vocals. Either way it was lovely and mellow, and after each song I found myself clapping!
In particular they sang Fly To The Moon, a song I really love, so my happiness was MAX. Even though I was drinking solo, as a jazz lover I could hear the music fully and enjoy it sweetly and romantically, a relaxed and happy time!
Jack Daniel's 40ml for ₩8,000, Budweiser draft for ₩8,000
Jack Daniel's No. 7 at Kick Ass Jazz Club is ₩8,000 for a 40ml glass. For real?! I ordered it thinking that, and it was an excellent choice. As long as a whiskey isn't a harsh peaty one or something too strong in flavor and aroma, I can drink just about any, so Jack Daniel's satisfied me plenty!
Budweiser draft beer is ₩8,000, but it's free if you join the receipt review event, so definitely join and have an extra beer^_^
