Busan milmyeon spot, 4pm walk-in on a work trip: Seomyeon Milmyeon

Seomyeon Milmyeon is a milmyeon (Busan wheat noodle) restaurant in Eos Plaza near Seomyeon Station in Busanjin, Busan. On a business trip to Busan, the writer went alone at 4pm, well after the lunch rush, walked straight in with no wait and had mul milmyeon (cold wheat noodles in icy broth) with chewy noodles and a savory, intriguingly layered broth. Seomyeon Milmyeon is a great pick for a cool, refreshing meal in a Busan summer.

Beomeo-dong, Daegu burgers: a 50-day-old's first meal out at Downtown

Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage is a handmade burger restaurant in Suseong, Daegu, near Daegueunhaeng Station. For a 50-day-old baby's first meal out, the writer wheeled the stroller straight into Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage and ordered a Double Cheese Truffle burger, an Egg Bulgogi Smash burger and original fries. Alternating between the rich truffle burger and the mild bulgogi burger made a satisfying pair, and Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage was an easy burger spot to visit with a baby.

Daegu yukgaejang spot for Boknal: king rib & kalguksu, Yukbanjang

Yukbanjang Daegu (육반장 대구점) is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu, near Gamsam Station and Gwangjang Core. The writer ordered the king rib yukgaejang (limited to 20 bowls a day), the kalguksu yukgaejang and the rib dumplings, and was impressed by the generous portion with 2 whole king rib bones and the spicy beef-bone broth. Yukbanjang Daegu is a good pick for a Boknal stamina meal or a hangover soup the day after drinking.

Gukbap restaurant with high chairs in Gyodong, Daegu: Hanwoojang

Hanwoojang (한우장) is a gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on Gukchaebosang-ro in the Gyodong area of Jung-gu, Daegu, open since 1968 and a Blue Ribbon Survey pick 12 years in a row. On a Dongseong-ro dinner out with a baby, one ttaro-gukbap and one seolleongtang were ordered at Hanwoojang: the seonji (beef blood curd) was springy with no gamey smell, and the mildly seasoned seolleongtang was easy to share with the baby. With high chairs, a self-serve side dish bar and 24-hour opening, Hanwoojang is a downtown Daegu gukbap spot where families with babies can drop in without worrying about the time.
