Pregnancy-friendly Korean BBQ at Mapo Station, Seoul: Mapo Gui Madang
In short

A heavily pregnant regular, close to her due date, started with 200g of whole pork belly (₩13,900), added two more rounds of 200g frozen pork belly (₩9,900), and finished with fried rice at ₩5,000 per serving. What is Mapo Gui Madang like?
Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch (마포구이마당 용강직영점) is a pork belly BBQ restaurant on the Yonggang-dong food street near Mapo Station. It was a Mapo Station pork belly spot I really wanted to visit before giving birth, and today I suddenly craved naengsam (frozen pork belly) and made a last-minute trip. It's packed every single time I go.

Restaurants around Yonggang-dong change surprisingly often, but Mapo Gui Madang has held its ground for years. That must mean lots of regulars and lots of customers, right?
Is there parking at Mapo Gui Madang?
There's no private parking lot, but the big road right out front has public parking, so if there's a spot free, parking is pretty easy!
Is it comfortable for a heavily pregnant person?
Inside, there aren't only round stools; there are chairs with backrests too, so even though I'm in my final weeks of pregnancy, I could grill and eat comfortably. There's also a restroom inside!

The cozy, homey interior is the same every time I visit, which makes it even nicer to come back to, haha.
Mapo Gui Madang menu and prices
The main attraction is pork belly: whole pork belly is ₩13,900 for 200g and frozen pork belly is ₩9,900 for 200g. The menu is simple and the prices are very reasonable.

They also have pork neck, makchang (grilled pork intestine), spicy baby octopus, pork skin and brisket, and you can order minari (water dropwort) and fernbrake as extras, which is what sets Mapo Gui Madang apart!!
The whole pork belly comes pre-grilled
They bring the whole pork belly already pre-grilled?!?! Before the naengsam I suddenly wanted whole pork belly, so I tried it, and it was plump and juicy and looked delicious.

Why is the green onion kimchi at Mapo Gui Madang so famous?
Honestly, Mapo Gui Madang is a green onion kimchi (pa-kimchi) place even more than a pork belly place!!!!! If you look closely, the sign says it's one of Korea's top three green onion kimchi spots, lol. And I really think that's why I became a regular >..<

When you eat pork belly, good kimchi or green onion salad makes the meat taste so much better, right?!? Mapo Gui Madang is exactly that kind of place!!! It's great grilled on the grill with the pork, and just as amazing eaten as is. So good, I'm tearing up.
The golden-brown whole pork belly had no gamey smell at all, with great juiciness and chew. But while we were eating, other tables kept coming and going, and every one of them was eating frozen pork belly!!!! So we ordered naengsam right away too.
Can you order naengsam after whole pork belly?
The frozen pork belly (200g ₩9,900) was so good that we finished it fast even after the whole pork belly. We ordered one serving first, ate it in no time, and ordered another, lol.

Since we'd already had the whole pork belly, I thought we'd just add a little naengsam, but whoa~~~~ I actually liked the naengsam better, haha. I recommend just ordering plenty from the start, hehe.

You can sprinkle pepper on the naengsam to taste, and grilling it with pepper is sooo much better. It cooks faster than the whole pork belly, which is nice, and while wrapping ssam (lettuce wraps) two servings vanished. When naengsam was trending, I went around hunting for Mapo naengsam spots, and thinking back, the place I found then and still go to now is Mapo Gui Madang near Mapo Station, haha.
A fried rice tip at Mapo Gui Madang
The fried rice is ₩5,000 per serving and a total bargain. They stir-fry it with lettuce, bean sprouts and even plenty of minari, with real care!!!!

They add a generous amount of seasoning sauce, so I, a spice wimp, worried it would be too spicy, but nope!!!!! The seasoning and savory flavor were just right, and I stuffed myself with carbs to finish and thought I'd burst, hahaha.
If you leave a little naengsam and grilled kimchi, they stir-fry it in together, and that's the real kick!
Visit number N, and more before the baby comes
Mapo Gui Madang near Mapo Station satisfies me every time, even on the Nth visit. I wonder when I'll be able to come again after the baby, so until I give birth I'll go as often as I can whenever I crave pork belly, lol.
