In short
Daedong Jangeo Yeouido is an eel and Korean beef (hanu) restaurant with private rooms on the first floor of the Oakwood Yeouido Park Hotel, near National Assembly Station in Seoul. After work on a Friday, the writer booked Daedong Jangeo Yeouido last-minute for a date and ordered grilled eel for two, yeolmu guksu (young radish kimchi noodles) and eel soup. Staff grilled the pre-seared eel over charcoal at the table. On a chilly evening, it was a deeply satisfying, restorative date dinner.

Why Daedong Jangeo Yeouido for an after-work eel tonic meal
On a Friday after work, I wanted a restorative meal with my partner, so I made a last-minute reservation at Daedong Jangeo Yeouido (대동장어 여의도점), near my office. They serve both eel and Korean beef.
The weather has turned chilly, somewhere between autumn and early winter. I was so busy watching the weather that I never got to wear a single autumn outfit and went straight to my lightweight puffer, says your blogger ^_^ Since it got cold, I wanted a proper tonic meal with my partner!
We both love grilled eel, but it's not exactly an everyday food, is it..? haha. So we only eat it three or four times a year. Today I booked it on a whim and just informed my partner. We've both been eating really poorly lately,,, so we needed some restoring.

Daedong Jangeo Yeouido sits right in the middle of Yeouido. There are tons of restaurants and bars in the neighborhood, but a truly great one is hard to find!

It uses only fresh domestic eel and also offers a variety of other Korean dishes, which is why it's well known in Yeouido. You can have a really proper meal here haha.

How is the room atmosphere for dates and business meals?
True to its name as a premium eel dining restaurant, Daedong Jangeo Yeouido lets you eat in a private, calm room. The upscale, refined interior stands out too. I think it would be great for business meetings and dates!!
Isn't the interior really nice..?? I think older family members would love it too. It felt luxurious, so I enjoyed the whole date.

Daedong Jangeo Yeouido side dishes: muksabal and seasoned greens
After much deliberation, we ordered my partner's picks today. I felt bad because our dinners have been so meager lately ^_^ hehe. With the cold weather, my body was sagging and my mood was down too,,,

The side dishes are muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup) and seasoned greens. The muksabal wasn't too cold and had kimchi in it, so it was cool and spicy, a great way to start haha. The seasoned greens, made of chamnamul (a wild aromatic green), perilla leaves and lettuce, were so tasty that I scraped the plate clean, which is a secret ha.

Grilled eel for two: do the staff grill it over charcoal?
At Daedong Jangeo Yeouido, the eel comes out pre-seared and the staff grill it just right over charcoal. They also serve the side dishes onto your plate, grill the eel beside you and keep looking after you, so you can just focus on eating ❤️
The eel has finally arrived!!! We ordered 2 servings. My partner skipped lunch today and we hadn't had eel in a while,, it looks insane just to look at!!!
They also grill green onions that look like cute little toys alongside~ Grilled over charcoal, the green onions are golden and delicious too ㅠ_ㅠ The eel is pre-seared and the staff grill it just right!

The look of it is insane,,, the eel is so plump and fresh! There's a reason it's famous as a Yeouido eel restaurant.

Yeolmu guksu with eel: how good is the pairing?
My partner's pick, the yeolmu guksu (young radish kimchi noodles), has thin wheat noodles in tangy-sweet young radish kimchi, so it was great to eat when the eel started to feel rich. The kimchi was so tangy and sweet!! Underneath are thin noodles haha. It's refreshing and goes really well with eel~~
Eel caught fresh from the tank, shown by the owner
While we were eating, the owner knocked on the door haha and showed us an eel like this!!! The freshness is on another level: Daedong Jangeo Yeouido says it catches the eel straight from the tank once an order comes in.
He said we could touch it too… but… we're both scaredy-cats, so we couldn't bring ourselves to haha. Still, it was fun to see such a fresh eel.

Next time we'll come back for a special day like an anniversary. Imagine how great eel and Korean beef together would be~ haha. Enjoyed another tasty meal today!!

Finishing with eel soup in an earthenware pot
For my partner, who absolutely needs rice, I ordered the eel soup at Daedong Jangeo Yeouido. It comes in a full earthenware pot and warms you up from the inside. It was sooo cold that we needed something hot haha.

We polished off the grilled eel and the eel soup and headed home on a Friday night haha. A totally satisfying meal out ❤️
