Post-beach Hamdeok black pork BBQ, meljeot and wasabi: Jeju Samchun

After playing at Hamdeok Beach on a Jeju trip, black pork is the one thing you always end up craving, right?! After soaking up the sea views to my heart's content, I was wondering where to go for dinner, and a friend recommended Jeju Samchun (제주삼춘) Hamdeok Beach branch, so I headed straight there :)

Do staff grill the Jeju black pork for you?

At Jeju Samchun, the staff manage the grill and cook the Jeju black pork to a good doneness, so even first-timers can eat without any stress. When you come to Jeju, black pork is a must, right? The Jeju-raised pork tasted fresh, and the thick cut gave it a great chew.

The staff were friendly, so I felt good through the whole meal, and they even told me how to eat the meat for the best flavor, which made it even better. They also kept tending the grill while the meat cooked, so I could enjoy it until the very end.

What side dishes come with dinner at Jeju Samchun?

It's not just the meat that's good; the basic side dishes are solid too. Fresh wrap vegetables and assorted sides were neatly laid out, and you can ask for more if you run short, so it was easy to eat comfortably.

The kimchi, spring onion salad and pickles all went well with the meat, so I kept reaching for more. If you order a meal dish as well, it's even more filling, and it was plenty for a travel meal. The portions were satisfying, so everyone in my group finished happily.

How to eat the Jocha Set: meljeot, wasabi and myeongi

We ordered the Jocha Set (조카세트) at Jeju Samchun, and my personal favorite was black pork with a little meljeot (salted anchovy sauce) and wasabi. Even the golden-brown look of the meat as it grilled got my appetite going^^

The first bite was really juicy, crisp outside and moist inside, and I immediately understood why Jeju black pork is famous. Dipped in meljeot, it brought out a flavor you can only get in Jeju, and it went well with the side dishes too, so I never got tired of it.

It's good wrapped in lettuce, and with myeongi namul (wild garlic-chive greens) the flavor came through even more. Adding wasabi to the meljeot made the meat's nutty richness stand out even more.

Would I go back to Jeju Samchun Hamdeok Beach?

If I come back to Jeju, Jeju Samchun's Hamdeok Beach branch is one of the places I'd want to revisit. The tasty Jeju black pork, the clean restaurant and the friendly service all left me very satisfied overall.
