Why we went to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel in Yangjae for an after-work energy boost
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) near Yangjae Station is an eel grill where the staff cook the eel for you, so I went there after work with my partner to recharge. The weather is just starting to get hot, and for some reason I keep thinking about stamina food. Some days I'm totally drained after work, and I felt like I needed a solid dose of protein.
So off we went to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel after work! I'm on a diet, after all~ and eel wrapped in lettuce is the ultimate healthy protein, so I went to eat eel with a clear conscience, haha.

It was a Friday evening and quite a few teams were there for company dinners (hoesik). When you think of a work dinner you usually think of a Korean BBQ place first, but a restaurant where the eel is grilled for you seemed like a really good option too.

Since the staff grill the eel, it's easy to chat, and the whole meal felt much more relaxed.
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel location and opening hours
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is at 6 Dogok-ro 4-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (Dogok-dong 943-4). It's open 11:00–22:00, with a break from 14:30 to 16:30.

You can walk from Exit 3 of Yangjae Station; you just head into the alley after coming out, so it was convenient after work. There are lots of offices around, so plenty of office workers seemed to be there on weekday evenings, and the neighborhood felt like a good place to drop by for lunch too.
Is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel's atmosphere right for a group dinner?
The first thing I noticed at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel was that it's a great atmosphere for a company dinner.

It was Friday evening, so quite a few tables had big groups, and the faint smell of grilling eel spread through the room and instantly woke up my appetite. The tables were tidy, so it was also fine for a dinner for two after work.

The reason Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel works as a work-dinner spot near Yangjae Station is that the staff do the grilling, so nobody has to be the designated griller, and you can chat comfortably while the eel cooks! My partner and I could sit and talk about our day, and I think conversation at a company dinner wouldn't get interrupted either!
1kg of salt-grilled eel for ₩59,000: how much do you get?

We ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel (₩59,000) at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel. The 1kg is the weight before prep, and the menu said about 550–600g is served after the bones and innards are removed.

The eel already looked plump before grilling, and a staff member put it on the grill and cooked it for us.

Eel juice came out first too. It felt like a warm-up before the eel, haha.

The side dishes went well with eel, and with wrap vegetables, ginger and sauces all set out, it was easy to switch up how we ate.

If you need more, you can just grab it from the self-serve corner. Eel juice can also be bought separately! I think it would make a nice gift!
Black raspberry salt-grilled eel and the best wrap combinations

The salt-grilled eel at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is sprinkled with purple salt made from Gochang black raspberries (bokbunja) and then grilled! Since the staff grill the eel, the wait was actually relaxing.
Watching the eel turn golden just makes you hungrier, doesn't it?! It was cut into perfectly even pieces, and it looked absolutely delicious~!
I first tried it plain with just the salt, and the eel itself was rich and tender. The outside was slightly crisp and the inside moist, and I felt energized from the first bite.
The eel tail, which I gave up to my partner~ hehe.

Put eel on a wrap leaf, add a little ginger, a touch of sauce, and it's really delicious. I wrapped them up neatly and ate away.
Wrapped in lettuce or perilla leaf, the eel keeps its richness while the vegetables cut the greasiness, so it felt lighter even as I kept eating!

Mushrooms and rice cakes grilled in eel fat
We grilled mushrooms too at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, and they were another treat, haha. Mushrooms soaked in a bit of eel fat were really nutty and tasty. Having grilled mushrooms in between changed the texture and made the meal feel fuller.

The grilled rice cakes (tteok) were amazing too~

Cleaned the eel plate~~

Is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel near Yangjae Station worth a return visit?
This visit to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel was an after-work evening with my partner to recharge, and it was a much more relaxed and filling meal than I expected. The salt-grilled eel was rich and tender, and wrapping it made me feel like I'd had a proper helping of healthy protein. Best of all, the staff did the grilling, so my partner and I could talk comfortably while eating.

It made sense why so many company dinner groups were there on a Friday evening. If you're looking for a work-dinner spot near Yangjae Station, grilled eel is a pretty good alternative to a BBQ place. With the weather getting hotter, this is an eel restaurant near Yangjae Station I'll think of again when I want a filling stamina dinner.
