Haedeun, a Gwisan-dong favorite in Changwon

Dinner at Haedeun after a Chuseok drive to Gwisan: where to park
Haedeun, the Western restaurant in Gwisan-dong, Changwon, has a building parking lot and a vacant lot across the road that you can also use. When we went for dinner during the Chuseok holiday, the building lot was full, so we parked in the lot across the road.
During the Chuseok holiday we drove out to Gwisan for some fresh air and came to Haedeun, a well-known Gwisan-dong restaurant in Changwon, for dinner! The weather was cloudy, but since it was a holiday, lots of people were out for a drive and a breeze.
Haedeun opening hours and break time
Haedeun is open from 11:30 AM to 8:20 PM, with a break time from 3 PM to 5 PM, so keep that in mind when you visit. It's described as a Western restaurant where the sea and sunlight linger, wanting to serve a meal as warm as sunshine.

Haedeun's interior and the terrace with a sea view
Haedeun's folding doors open the interior onto the terrace, and you can see the Gwisan sea beyond the terrace garden. Inside it felt cozy, and both the view and the atmosphere were lovely.

Inside Haedeun there are tables for 2, tables for 4, and even a group table for 6, so it would also work for a date or a get-together in Changwon. Naver Reservation is available too, so I'd recommend booking ahead for a group!

Haedeun's homemade pickles and QR ordering
In front of the open kitchen, Haedeun sets out homemade pickles like a self-serve bar. I went to scoop some myself, but the staff brought them to the table for us. They're homemade, sweet and tangy, and really good!

Wet wipes and napkins are on the table, and you can check the menu and order easily on your phone by scanning the QR code on the table. You pay at the counter after the meal!

Haedeun's menu: pasta, gnocchi and risotto to set menus and drinks
Haedeun in Gwisan-dong, Changwon, sells a wide range of Western dishes, including pasta, gnocchi, pilaf, risotto, salads and steak, plus set menus for 2 people and for 3–4 people. Drinks include ades, juices and sodas, and if you join the review event you get a free orange ade! For alcohol, Heineken and highballs are sold, and corkage is allowed too!

Rye bread and garlic oil to start
Haedeun serves rye bread as the starter bread. I wanted to dip it in the pasta sauce, so I added extra rye bread when ordering, and it all came out together. A whole pile of rye bread, haha! Dipped in the garlic oil that came with it, it was delicious.

While I was eating the rye bread, the dishes we ordered started coming out one by one.

Signature Sunshine Cream Pasta, ₩17,800: how does it taste?
Haedeun's signature Sunshine Cream Pasta costs ₩17,800, with a thick, rich cream sauce soaking into thin noodles. The menu says Haedeun is a cream specialist and that cream dishes are a must-order, so I chose a cream pasta!
It's described as having a deep base made from onions steamed richly in a pressure cooker, with the flavors of French paysan cream, Grana Padano and Parmigiano cheese.

It's topped with fresh green sprouts, and you can feel how thick and rich the cream sauce is as soon as you mix it! The noodles are thin, so they're easy to twirl and slurp, and the thin, chewy noodles soak up plenty of cream sauce, so every bite felt rich. I really enjoyed it.

Tomato Beef Risotto, ₩18,500: does it go with the cream dishes?
Haedeun's Tomato Beef Risotto is ₩18,500, with big chunks of beef in a sauce combining rich ragù and the tang of tomato. The risotto is spicy, so it cut the richness of the Western dishes and was great to eat alongside the Sunshine Cream Pasta.

Corn Cream Gnocchi, ₩19,000: why I picked it from three gnocchi
Haedeun has three kinds of gnocchi: Truffle Oil Gnocchi, Injeolmi Cream Gnocchi (made with injeolmi, a roasted soybean powder used in rice cakes) and Corn Cream Gnocchi. After some deliberation I ordered the ₩19,000 Corn Cream Gnocchi.

Since it's the corn cream gnocchi, it has grilled corn in it, so picking out the kernels is fun, and the chewy gnocchi in thick yet smooth cream sauce was nutty and sweet and so good. The kind of taste that keeps you reaching for more! No wonder cream dishes are the recommended must-order, haha!
I enjoyed everything we ordered. If you're looking for a good place in Gwisan-dong, Changwon, give Western restaurant Haedeun a visit 🍽️
