Dongmyo curry restaurant parking guide: 50,000-won couple set, Namaste

I stopped by the Dongdaemun toy street to buy gifts for my nieces and nephews, and heard there was a Blue Ribbon-winning Indian curry restaurant nearby. That's Namaste Dongmyo Branch (나마스테 동묘점) — let me walk you through the atmosphere, which really feels like stepping into India, and the delicious food!

Parking at Namaste Dongmyo: only 2–3 cars under the building

Namaste Dongmyo Branch is right outside Exit 5 of Dongmyo Station, so it's super accessible 👍🏻

There's space for about 2–3 cars under the building. Since there was no spot there, I followed Naver's parking guidance and parked at the Changsin 1-dong Community Center parking lot instead — but then I got a call asking me to move my car...

I'm not sure if the guidance was just wrong, but either way, I'd recommend finding a nearby public parking lot instead!

Head up to the 2nd floor of the building and you'll find Namaste Dongmyo Branch. Just a heads up — it's an old building, so there's no elevator!

Right at the entrance, there it is — the Blue Ribbon! Namaste Dongmyo Branch has apparently received it consistently since 2018. (Getting excited before I've even eaten 🥹)

Here's the interior. It feels a bit aged, but well-maintained and clean. The seating is spaced out generously, and there are group tables too, so it seems great for dining with several people.

and the fabric wall with an Indian vibe was really charming too 👍🏻

Little details like these gave it a distinctive, transportive feeling, like being in actual India 💛

The menu ranges from signature dishes to couple sets, curries, naan, Nepalese snacks, lassi, and drinks — really varied. The prices felt cheaper than expected?! We went with the no-brainer couple menu (₩50,000).

What comes with the Namaste Dongmyo couple set?

A generous couple set spread arrived. It included samosa, chicken tikka, shrimp chilli, chicken makhani curry, vegetable curry, rice, garlic naan, and lassi.

I was surprised at how much food there was 🤤 I really wondered if this was actually meant for just two people!

Chicken tikka and shrimp chilli at Namaste Dongmyo

First up, chicken tikka and shrimp chilli. They look similar because of the red seasoning, but shrimp chilli is on top and chicken tikka is on the bottom.

Chicken tikka is similar to tandoori chicken, the difference being bone-in versus boneless. This one was boneless, so it was easy to eat, and the chicken was tender enough to still taste good even after cooling a bit. Not too salty, with a subtle hint of spice — really charming!

I also tried the shrimp chilli, and I've never had such plump chilli shrimp before... The meat was juicy and tender, and the slightly spicy chilli sauce paired really well with the sweet shrimp 👍🏻

As important as protein is my beloved carbs...🤍 the garlic naan and rice. The garlic naan had a nutty aroma wafting off it with a chewy texture, and the rice was just fluffy enough to pair perfectly with the curry.

Tasting samosa for the first time

Samosa was a first for me — apparently it's an Indian fried dumpling. Two big pieces came out.

Cutting it open, the inside was packed full. The outer crust was crispy like a spring roll, while the filling of various vegetables and peas was soft and mild. (Crispy outside, soft inside(?) 😝)

It can be a bit bland on its own, so dipping it in the ketchup that comes with it makes it even better 👍

Chicken makhani and vegetable curry with garlic naan

Chicken makhani and vegetable curry. Chicken makhani is loaded with thick chunks of chicken and has a sweet, tangy, and savory curry flavor. Vegetable curry is meant for vegetarians, and had various vegetables plus large cheese cubes for some texture to chew on — a very mild curry.

Piling vegetable curry onto garlic naan is also excellent!

This chicken makhani curry was seriously addictive.. I kept dipping naan into it 🐷 A flavor anyone would love!

Pickles and seasoned onion. Great little palate refreshers between bites 😋

House-made lassi at Namaste Dongmyo

The couple set comes with two glasses of lassi, made in-house. Tangy, sweet, and rich with yogurt flavor — perfect as a dessert drink 👍

There was a period when I was really into Indian curry and ate it often, and personally, this was the best Indian curry I've ever had. (Individual tastes may vary!)

The interior had an Indian feel that was fun to take in, and the staff being from India made it feel even more authentic. The prices were quite reasonable, and the calm atmosphere made it perfect for a relaxed date with my husband after a long time!
