I had a meetup in Nowon and ended up discovering a genuinely delicious jokbal place along the way. It was so soft and chewy I completely fell for it. Here's my real, honest review from today's meal.

Outside & inside vibe

This is Gwihan Jokbal, located near Exit 1 of Nowon Station.

The entrance looked narrow, but once I stepped inside, the place turned out to be pretty spacious.

It's clean enough to feel perfect for a group meetup or a family meal out. Jokbal places tend to be delivery-focused, so I've often been let down by messy interiors. This one's a total pass!

Menu board & recommended dish

I wanted both bossam and jokbal, so I ordered the bojok set.

Before the jokbal arrived, they brought out hwangtae kongnamul-guk, and honestly, this alone was a total win even before the main dish showed up. I slurped down the whole bowl.

The bojok set When you can't decide between jokbal and bossam, ordering half-and-half is the way to go.

Right off the bat, the glossy sheen on the meat was a pass. They say pretty food tastes good too, and it was plated so neatly that it put me in a great mood.

Bossam The meat was soft with zero off-smell. I'm actually more of a bossam person than a jokbal person, and this bossam wasn't tough at all — the meat was really well boiled.

Jokbal Chewy and soft, this jokbal kept disappearing bite after bite.

I tried wrapping it up with the makguksu, and that combo is truly the truth. You know makguksu is a must when you're eating jokbal or bossam, right?

The lettuce wraps I can never skip — wrapping this and that in them had me applauding. I really recommend eating it together with the wrap greens. Especially with kimchi and mu-saengchae — that's just... ugh, haha. The taste that reminds you of your whole family.

Nowon has so many restaurants that I often struggle deciding what to eat, and picking wrong has left me feeling pretty disappointed more than a few times.

But I figured that on days when I'm craving jokbal, coming to Gwihan Jokbal would never fail.

The portions are generous too, so you can leave full and satisfied.
