Charcoal offal BBQ in Byeollae during wedding prep: Chodaechang
In short
Chodaechang Byeollae Branch (초대창 별내점) is a charcoal-grilled beef offal restaurant in an alley near the Sinan Insville complex in Byeollae, Namyangju. After holding off on greasy food while preparing for the wedding ceremony, the writer enjoyed a full course of Mixed Grill Set A (640g, 66,000 won) and beef tripe fried rice (13,000 won), with staff grilling everything over charcoal from start to finish. For grilled offal with no gamey smell in a comfortable, smoke-free room, Chodaechang Byeollae Branch is a great fit.

I've been holding back on greasy food for my wedding prep, and all I could think about was rich, nutty daechang (beef large intestine) and chewy makchang (abomasum). So I went to Chodaechang Byeollae Branch (초대창 별내점), famous in Byeollae for its offal. Even the charcoal grilling service was perfect. Here's my honest review of Mixed Grill Set A ♥
Chodaechang Byeollae Branch location, hours and parking
Chodaechang Byeollae Branch is open daily 16:00–23:30, and there's free parking for up to 4 cars in front. It's in Byeollae, Namyangju, near the Sinan Insville complex, tucked inside an alley, so it felt relatively relaxed.

What is the inside of Chodaechang Byeollae Branch like?
I was surprised: none of that slippery floor or smoke you usually get at a BBQ place, and it was super pleasant! The interior is a little retro but tidy, so if you're looking for a Byeollae date spot or a family meal, Chodaechang Byeollae Branch is worth a visit.

The side dishes and sauces come out neat and tidy too!

Mixed Grill Set A for 66,000 won: do staff grill it for you?
Yes, the staff grill the mixed grill over charcoal from start to finish. Strong-burning charcoal came in, followed by a fresh-looking Mixed Grill Set A. It's been a while since I had offal, so I was so excited >.<

This grilling is the biggest plus of Chodaechang in Byeollae! Offal burns easily, but they grilled it to just the right doneness, so I could happily eat like a baby bird being fed and focus on chatting with my companion. So comfy.

Beef heart: eat it as soon as the pink is gone
The heart cooked first in Mixed Grill Set A, and the staff put it on my small plate. You know heart should be eaten right when the blood has just cleared, right! It was chewy and clean-tasting like beef, and I was marveling from the very first bite.

Makchang and teukyang: charcoal aroma and a chewy bite

The makchang and teukyang I had next had a work-of-art chewy texture! The charcoal aroma soaked right in, so it was nutty with no off-smell, and dipping it generously in the special sauce with a chili pepper on top cut the richness completely!

Daechang: split in half and grilled golden
At Chodaechang Byeollae Branch, the staff split the daechang in half and grilled it golden, controlling the fat as they went.

Eaten this way, the outside was super crispy and the nutty burst inside was at its peak, so it tasted way better.
Is the 13,000 won beef tripe fried rice worth it to finish?
The yang fried rice at Chodaechang Byeollae Branch is ₩13,000, a kimchi-based fried rice on a hot iron plate packed with teukyang. Even when you're full, leaving without fried rice feels wrong!

It arrives sizzling on the iron plate, and with so much teukyang in it, every bite was wonderfully chewy.

Spicy-sweet kimchi seasoning with a slightly crisped bottom: pure deliciousness! If you visit Chodaechang, definitely try the yang fried rice ♥

Chodaechang Byeollae Branch: final verdict
Thanks to the professional charcoal grilling service, I could eat in total comfort. If you want fresh, nutty grilled offal with no off-smell, definitely visit Chodaechang Byeollae Branch!
