Yongsan tteokbokki bar, 90s songs & a birthday 2nd round: Hyeonseonine

A tteokbokki spot for a second round in Yongsan: Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch

I met my friends in Yongsan, and after the first round we were looking for somewhere to go next. My friends said they wanted tteokbokki, so we went to Hyeonseonine (현선이네) Yongsan Main Branch. Short version: totally satisfied ㅠㅠㅠ!!!

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is at 2-13 Hangang-daero 39-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and it's open 11:00–24:00 (last order 22:40). I honestly love Hyeonseonine tteokbokki. There's one in my neighborhood too and I go all the time, but wait, Yongsan is the main branch?!

How is Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch different from other branches?

In the evening, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch plays a playlist that anyone born in the 90s will totally relate to, and it sells draft beer, beer and soju. It's good for a lunch or daytime meal too, but lots of people come here to drink.

Packed at 9pm, and we ordered the combo set

We ordered the combo set (tteokbokki, fish cake, mini gimbap, sundae, fried snacks), which serves 2–3 people. We came at 9pm for our second round and it was full!! Wow, wow, wow.

If you like tteokbokki but also want to drink, I really recommend Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch. Most pocha-style bars (Korean pubs) aren't that tasty, right? But this is a tteokbokki specialist, so the food works great with drinks, and they sell alcohol and the atmosphere is so good.

How big is the combo set?

The Hyeonseonine combo set is enormous! If we'd come for the first round, the three of us would have finished it for sure, but as a second round it was a lot haha. But you know how it is, tasty food keeps going down even when you're full! It was my friend's birthday, so I brought a mini cake and we celebrated too : )

Ah, so generous, so generous. Everyone loves snack-bar food! The Hyeonseonine I had at other branches was great too, but the Yongsan main branch really is different, as a main branch should be haha. My friends said they were full and kept eating anyway hahaha.

I liked that the combo set lets you try a variety of dishes haha. I love eating lots of different things together, so I adore this kind of combo set.

Fish cake and fried snacks

The fish cake was chewy and the broth was good, as expected : ) You know fish cake and booze go well together!

What can I say about the fried snacks. There's a variety and they're super crispy, and dipped in the tteokbokki sauce, that's it, game over!

Tteokbokki at medium spice

At Hyeonseonine you can choose mild or spicy, but we were told the spicy is very spicy, so we asked for medium : ) The tteokbokki was nicely spicy and so good.

Mini gimbap and sundae

The mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) was the good kind of basic gimbap. It's really best dipped in the tteokbokki sauce too ㅠㅠ Ahh~~~ it looks delicious even looking back at it.

I ordered the sundae (Korean blood sausage) half offal, half sundae, and my one regret is that I was too full to finish it ㅠㅠ I should have taken it to go~~~~ hahaha The sundae is tasty too!

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch sells draft beer

And the really great thing: the Hyeonseonine main branch sells draft beer!!!!!!!! Huge news, huge news. I ordered a draft beer and it was so, so cold ㅠㅠ

Ah, the draft beer is seriously amazing! Bottled beer is fine too, but I can't give up the taste of draft~~~ Definitely order the draft beer!

Why I recommend it as a Yongsan tteokbokki bar

If you're looking for a tteokbokki spot or a place to drink in Yongsan, I really recommend Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch! They play lots of 90s–2000s songs hahaha so it feels like a pocha and was so fun. Maybe because of the old songs, we talked a ton about our high school days, and we had such a fun, tasty time here!
