In short

Yeoyejeong (여여정) is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant on Ssangsolbaegi-gil in Seomyeon, Yangyang, Gangwon, about a 13-minute drive from Naksansa Temple. On a 5-night, 6-day Gangwon trip, the writer checked into their lodging and then had dinner at Yeoyejeong: 2 servings of marinated galbi (250g per serving, ₩18,000) with white kimchi noodles, naengmyeon (cold noodles) and pot rice. The staff even brought a second bowl of naengmyeon in case the first had gone soggy. Yeoyejeong beat expectations on taste, atmosphere and service, making it a strong pick for marinated galbi near Naksansa.

Yeoyejeong: a Korean BBQ dinner spot near Naksansa

Yeoyejeong (여여정) is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant in Seomyeon, Yangyang, only about a 13-minute drive from Naksansa. On a 5-night, 6-day trip around Gangwon, I visited Naksansa in Yangyang, checked in at our accommodation, and went looking for a good place near it for dinner. That's how I ended up here. If you're hunting for a BBQ place near Naksansa, I'd recommend giving it a try.

Even if you don't have a car, Yeoyejeong is a kind restaurant that runs pickup by bus and van, so getting there shouldn't be a big problem. Here's my review of the marinated galbi (beef short ribs) I had :)

Where is Yeoyejeong, and is there parking?

Yeoyejeong's address is 49 Ssangsolbaegi-gil, Seomyeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon, and there's a large parking area in front of the restaurant.

Inside Yeoyejeong: atmosphere and seating

Inside, the big windows give a lovely view of the scenery outside, which felt very atmospheric. The space is large, with plenty of seats.

How many people can Yeoyejeong take for group bookings?

The main hall at Yeoyejeong can be booked for 2 to 60 people at once, and the private room takes groups of 8 to 24. It's a good BBQ place near Naksansa for company dinners, family events, and village gatherings and feasts.

There's also paper, markers and colored pencils so you can draw or write something and stick it on the wall. Kids will have fun with that.

How Yeoyejeong salt-ages its meat and preps ingredients

Yeoyejeong says salt-aging concentrates the flavor for a rich, maximized savoriness. The salt tenderizes the protein, so the meat is said to melt softly in your mouth as you chew.

For freshness, they prepare only what can be used within 3 days, in small amounts and often. It's a restaurant that really puts care into it. Salt-aged meat can also be delivered through their Smart Store online shop.

Yeoyejeong side dishes and Kaipira lettuce

Yeoyejeong serves lettuce, pickled chives, salad, white kimchi, seasoned vegetables, garlic, ssamjang (dipping paste), salt and wasabi as standard. If you need more of anything, just ask the staff.

  • The white kimchi is made in-house
  • Chili peppers and other vegetables are grown in their own field
  • The Kaipira lettuce is hydroponically grown at a smart farm run by the Yangyang Association for People with Physical Disabilities

The smart farm is a certified germ-free, pesticide-free facility, and the restaurant has an annual contract to buy good-quality lettuce from it, hoping to help people in need.

Coffee-tree bijangtan (white charcoal) for grilling

Yeoyejeong uses coffee-tree bijangtan charcoal, which costs 2 to 3 times more than regular charcoal. Even when fat drips, it doesn't flare up or splatter, so it's safe, and it gives off little smoke, so the room doesn't fill up and the smell doesn't cling much. A BBQ place near Naksansa that prepares everything with the guest in mind, from start to finish.

How did Yeoyejeong's marinated galbi for 2 taste?

Yeoyejeong's marinated galbi is ₩18,000 for a 250g serving, and we ordered 2 servings that day.

Well-grilled Yeoyejeong marinated galbi

It's butterflied galbi hand-marinated in Yeoyejeong's own homemade sauce, served with one king oyster mushroom. Tender texture, deep savoriness, the clean scent of charcoal, and a smoky flavor.

It made the meal even more fun to eat at a BBQ place that grows its own side dishes in the field out front and uses quality ingredients. I especially liked that Kaipira lettuce: it's crunchier yet softer than regular lettuce, with little bitterness and a faint sweetness.

White kimchi noodles, naengmyeon, pot rice and a free extra bowl

For sides at Yeoyejeong, we ordered white kimchi noodles (₩6,000), cold noodles (₩5,000) and pot rice (₩3,000).

Great-value sides. The tangy white kimchi noodles and cold noodles were a wonderful combination with the marinated galbi. The well-cooked pot rice is a must-add, so do try it.

They said they were worried the cold noodles might have gotten soggy because they served them too quickly, and brought us another one 😭 What is going on with this service!

We went because it was close to our accommodation, but the taste, atmosphere and service were all better than I expected, and I was really satisfied. A marinated galbi spot near Naksansa in Yangyang, and I recommend Yeoyejeong ♡
