I was on a date on Garosu-gil when I suddenly craved gukbap (rice soup), and there was a gukbap place right next door❓ I'd been singing about gukbap for days, hehe. A gukbap gem at my favorite date spot‼️ Why did I only find out now? 👀

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap?

The restaurant is big, and it has none of that musty smell gukbap places often have. The moment I walked in I thought, oh, it's closer to Garosu-gil than I expected, and so spacious! The tables are widely spaced and clean. There were all kinds of customers, couples on a date, families and more〰️ There are also several private rooms, so it looked great for get-togethers!

I was so excited about having hot gukbap for the first time in ages, haha. Seriously, I'd been singing "gukbap, gukbap" for days. Lots of people say it's good, so my expectations were high! What to eat~~~

What we ordered, and how fast the food came out

We ordered pork gukbap, spicy sundae gukbap (blood sausage rice soup) and a small suyuk plate (boiled pork slices), the full works〰️!! I was hungry, so I was going to eat a lot!! After ordering we waited just a little, and the food came out really fast. It was a late lunch and I was starving, and I'm an impatient person, so I was super happy 🤣

Does Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap serve salted shrimp and seasoning sauce individually?

Instead of leaving them on every table, Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap brings out the salted shrimp and seasoning sauce individually, and the spoons and chopsticks were fresh and clean. It all came set up with neat side dishes, and the salted shrimp and seasoning sauce were especially tidy! When they sit on the table the whole time, they can get so messy that I hesitate to scoop any out, so this was really, really nice‼️

How does Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap's pork gukbap broth taste?

You can tell the pork gukbap broth is the real deal just from its color, and when I tried it, it was nutty and mild with no gamey smell at all! I like to add just a little salted shrimp and chives for a clean taste〰️ and that only works at a place that's truly good, right❓

It's totally milky white, and with just salted shrimp it makes such a clean broth~! It tastes good without much extra seasoning, and the meat itself is tender and delicious. And it's packed with meat...!!

What does the perilla spicy sundae gukbap taste like?

The spicy sundae gukbap at Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap has perilla powder as its base, so unlike the usual spicy flavor, the nutty taste is strong. It was a surprisingly good one‼️ I've tried the spicy version at gukbap places and failed more than a few times, but this one is yummy! Bursts of nuttiness ❣️ If you like perilla powder, you can't not like this. The taste is close to a famous sundae jeongol (sundae hot pot) place, a deep flavor that makes you think of a glass of soju〰️

Is the tasting plate of suyuk (boiled pork) worth ordering?

The small suyuk plate is wonderfully chewy, and I'd tell you to definitely get it with your gukbap 〰️ (and you even get it as a freebie if you write a Naver review!)

Wrap it in the cabbage leaves that come with it and gobble it down, pure happiness ❣️

Is there a self-serve side dish bar?

Yes, Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap has a self-serve bar where you can take as much well-fermented kimchi, chili peppers and chives as you like. I piled on the chives without any guilt, hehehe. Gotta eat my veggies 🤣

Is Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap worth it for a Garosu-gil date lunch in Changwon?

I recommend Yongho Dwaeji Gukbap, because I liked the value as well as the taste and the cleanliness! A nice date on Changwon's Garosu-gil is great, but if you're Korean, isn't a hot, filling bowl of gukbap like this just wonderful every now and then? If you're heading to Garosu-gil, definitely stop by!
