In short

Cheongdam Mimgye is a chicken specialty restaurant on Hakdong-ro 77-gil in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, within walking distance of Cheongdam Station. Two of us ordered the spicy chicken stew, dakgaejang (11,000 won), the half-chicken kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup, 11,000 won), which came with a whole chicken drumstick in the bowl, and grilled Spam with a fried egg (10,000 won). Cheongdam Mimgye, a restaurant near Cheongdam Station famous for its chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup)

Today I want to introduce Cheongdam Mimgye, a great spot for a warm, filling meal near Cheongdam Station! I've always liked chicken dishes and Korean soups, and Mimgye turned out to be a chicken specialty restaurant with all kinds of chicken menus — dakgomtang (chicken soup), dakgaejang (spicy chicken stew), chicken jeongol (hot pot), jjimdak (braised chicken), you name it. I happened to have plans near Cheongdam, so my partner and I went looking for somewhere filling to eat and ended up here.

Where is Cheongdam Mimgye, and what are its hours and parking?

What the inside of Cheongdam Mimgye looks like

The interior of Cheongdam Mimgye has a wood-tone design with soft yellow lighting, giving it a warm, cozy atmosphere. It's not huge, but the polished interior would work well for a family meal or a group gathering too.

It's neatly arranged mostly with 4-person tables, so it worked well for the two of us, but it also looked good for larger groups.

It's not far on foot from Cheongdam Station, so it seems like a good lunch spot for a filling meal, and I imagine plenty of office workers come by in the evening for chicken dishes with a drink. A hearty Korean lunch spot by day, a casual place for a drink by night — the vibe probably shifts depending on the time of day.

When it's hot out, this seems like a good place to come for chogyetang (cold chicken noodles), and in winter the hot pot or chicken soup would be really warming. Chicken dishes are pretty universally liked and work in any season, haha.

After ordering, the basic side dishes came out first. They were neatly arranged in a divided glass plate, which looked clean. From kimchi to seasoned dried radish, pickles, corn salad, peppers, and ssamjang (dipping sauce) — mostly things that pair well with a soup dish.

Spicy dakgaejang, 11,000 won: a clay pot packed with bean sprouts

Cheongdam Mimgye's spicy chicken stew (dakgaejang) is a deep, spicy soup made with hand-boiled shredded chicken breast, taro stem, bracken fern, bean sprouts, and scallions.

Spicy chicken stew served heaping full in an earthenware pot

I was craving something spicy today, so I ordered the dakgaejang, and it arrived in a big earthenware pot, generously filled — the portion alone impressed me. My first thought was 'this could easily go with two bowls of rice,' haha.

A spoonful of dakgaejang broth lifted up

I took one spoonful of the broth and it was clear the rich chicken stock had been properly extracted — the kind of flavor that makes you feel restored. It made me want to just gulp it down, haha. Spicy and refreshing, but the finish was clean too, so it was really delicious. No chicken smell at all, and no oil floating on top — I could see why it's a signature dish.

Clear, oil-free, spicy dakgaejang broth

There was plenty of filling inside too, so it was really satisfying. I ate the glass noodles first since they seemed like they'd get soggy if left too long, haha. But what I loved most was how generous the bean sprouts were! The spicy broth soaked into the sprouts while they kept their crunch, making the soup taste even more refreshing — so good.

The shredded chicken breast inside was tender too, with none of that dry texture.

Scooping up a big bite of the filling and slurping it down made me genuinely happy!!! And since it came in an earthenware pot that keeps the broth from cooling quickly, I ended up portioning some into a side plate.

Chewing the scallions and bean sprouts together added crunch and made the flavor even richer. It wasn't too spicy either — about the level of Shin Ramyun, I'd say — so kids who handle spicy food well could probably enjoy it too!

My partner handed me a piece of chicken from the noodle soup, haha, so I dropped it into my dakgaejang broth to try.

At the end, I mixed rice into the broth and finished it off properly, haha. On weekdays from 11am to 3pm, rice is free, so I could scoop more from the rice cooker when I ran low. Mixing rice into that spicy broth really made it feel like a full, proper meal.

Half-chicken kalguksu, 11,000 won: a whole drumstick in the bowl

Cheongdam Mimgye's half-chicken kalguksu is a hearty chicken noodle soup with a rich chicken-bone broth, zucchini, potato, and a touch of savory miso.

The broth in the chicken noodle soup was much deeper than I expected. The savory, rich flavor that comes from simmering chicken for a long time was fantastic.

Rich, savory chicken-bone broth kalguksu

That said, it wasn't heavy or greasy like samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) — it was rich but with a clean finish, so I kept going back for more spoonfuls.

The noodles came in a bigger portion than I expected too, and they weren't overcooked — just the right chewy, soft texture. The kalguksu noodles had soaked up the rich chicken broth nicely, so even the noodles alone weren't bland, and slurping them with the broth together was really satisfying.

I'd heard it comes with half a chicken, and sure enough, there was a whole big drumstick in there!! The meat was in big chunks too, giving it a different charm from the finely shredded chicken in the dakgaejang. One dish spicy and refreshing, the other rich and clean — I could see why both are signature menu items.

The noodles were soft yet chewy, so kids should be able to eat them comfortably without choking. After finishing the chicken broth, I definitely felt full and energized.

The meat was pure white and clean-looking, which made it seem even fresher and more appetizing.

Grilled Spam and fried egg, 10,000 won: the side to share

The main dishes alone were already plenty filling, but when you're eating soup dishes like these, you crave something salty on the side, haha. This was a great pairing for that.

For a company dinner, ordering a chicken hot pot along with sides like this would make for good drinking food too! The fried egg is a flavor I know well from home, but somehow it tasted even better here, haha. It wasn't just in my head — the egg was genuinely nutty and delicious. Especially good paired with the spicy dakgaejang!
