Cheongdam Korean restaurant for solo abalone chicken soup: Mimgye

In short

Cheongdam Mimgye is a modern Korean restaurant specializing in chicken dishes, right by Exit 8 of Cheongdam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Worn out by the heat, the blogger ordered a half-chicken abalone dakgomtang (Korean chicken soup) with glass noodles and a whole-chicken dakgomtang with egg and glass noodles. The abalone soup came with a whole abalone in a clean, mild broth and plenty of chicken. With a separate one-person bar table, Cheongdam Mimgye is a good pick for a restorative solo meal near Cheongdam Station.

A bowl of abalone dakgomtang at Cheongdam Mimgye

A day of properly nourishing myself with hot dakgomtang (chicken soup) — Cheongdam Mimgye, a body-boosting food spot near Cheongdam Station. The weather's been so hot lately and I've been sweating so much that I felt drained and low on energy, so I craved something hearty and restorative. I went to Cheongdam Mimgye for chicken dishes to recharge.

Most places around Cheongdam have menus meant for two or more people, but here you can comfortably enjoy solo dining, a full meal, or even a drink with your food. 🤍

It's really close to Cheongdam Station Exit 8, so it's very easy to reach by public transit.

It's a modern Korean restaurant right in the middle of Cheongdam-dong that specializes in chicken dishes, so there's a wide variety of chicken preparations here 🌿 What I liked most was that you can comfortably order dakgomtang as a solo-friendly menu item!

Another thing I loved about Cheongdam Mimgye is that there's a separate one-person bar table inside! 😊 When you go eat alone, it can sometimes feel awkward sitting solo at a big table, but here the one-person bar table makes solo dining much easier.

Weekdays from 11:00 to 15:00, they run an unlimited rice refill event. Next time I'll order the dak-kalguksu (chicken knife-cut noodles) to have the noodles too, then mix rice into the leftover broth to finish it off properly 💗💗

True to its name, Cheongdam Mimgye offers a really wide range of menu items centered on chicken. From dakgomtang to dakgaejang (spicy chicken stew), chogye guksu (cold chicken noodles), and other noodle dishes, there's plenty of variety so you can pick according to your taste.

It really feels like a modern Korean dining spot where you can enjoy everything chicken has to offer!

What is the abalone dakgomtang?

That day, to properly nourish myself, I ordered the abalone dakgomtang half-portion (added glass noodles) and the whole dakgomtang (added egg, added glass noodles)! Even just visually, it really gave off that restorative-food feeling 🥰

A spread with abalone dakgomtang and whole dakgomtang

The abalone dakgomtang I ordered has a whole abalone sitting in richly simmered chicken broth. With yellow egg garnish and scallions on top, the whole bowl looked really pretty too 👀💦

And I added glass noodles on top >< 👍🏻

The chicken meat was so generous it made for a hearty meal, and the chewy, fresh abalone was the best! 🤤💦💗

Dakgomtang with a whole half-chicken inside for ₩10,000! Best value at Cheongdam Mimgye 👍🏻

Rich chicken bone broth dakgomtang served with rice

It's a dish based on rich chicken bone broth, served with half a chicken and rice, and they added egg and glass noodles to it too!

Dakgomtang isn't a heavily seasoned food, so it doesn't feel heavy on the stomach, yet the warm broth and chicken made me feel like I had a proper, filling meal. 💗 I went to nourish myself because I felt run-down lately, and it was a good menu choice, so good! 😋

Adjusting the seasoning with minced garlic and chili paste

The broth is on the clean, mild side, so it's tasty even plain, but you can add the minced garlic and chili paste (dadaegi) on the table to adjust the seasoning to your taste. Adding minced garlic or chili paste partway through gives it a whole different feel — try it 😆

Even though the hot weather made me want only cold food, having a bowl of hot dakgomtang after a while made my stomach feel so comfortable. I think dakgomtang is the best for body recovery 🐓🍲
