Why I booked ahead at Nopo Dwaeji in Aewol
While planning my Jeju trip, I wanted to eat good black pork in Aewol, so I made a reservation ahead of time and visited Nopo Dwaeji Aewol. On trips I try to book ahead whenever possible since waiting around during meal times feels like wasted vacation time, and it really paid off — I walked right in without any wait. I wanted to share this place for anyone hoping to try proper Jeju black pork in Aewol.

The atmosphere and seating
The first thing I noticed walking in was how clean and tidy the place felt. The tables were spaced well enough that it didn't feel cramped, making it comfortable for families or travelers. As lunchtime approached, more and more customers kept coming in — I could see why it's popular.

The staff were friendly too, so even as first-time visitors we could settle in without any awkwardness. From ordering to being seated, everything flowed naturally and we started the meal in a good mood.

How were the side dishes?
The basic side dishes (banchan) that came with the meal at Nopo Dwaeji Aewol were each neatly prepared. There was a good variety, and with fresh vegetables alongside, I was already looking forward to how they'd pair with the meat.

What I especially liked was that none of the banchan were overly seasoned, so they didn't overpower the flavor of the black pork. Everything we needed was thoughtfully prepared, and we never felt like anything was missing throughout the meal.

Charcoal grilling and the lunch special
One of the best things about this place is that staff grill the meat directly over charcoal. They timed it just right so we got to eat it at its most delicious, which made for a really relaxed meal during the trip. They kept checking on the meat and grilled it with real care, which made it even more satisfying.
This time we ordered the lunch special. It came with samgyeopsal, kimchi jjigae, and kelp rice all together, so it was really filling. It was more than enough for one meal and felt like great value for the price. With meat, stew, and rice all balanced together, it's a lunch set I'd happily recommend.

Charcoal-grilled samgyeopsal
The samgyeopsal, well-grilled over charcoal, was golden and crisp outside and juicy inside. The more I chewed, the more savory juices spread through my mouth, and I could really taste the chewy texture unique to Jeju black pork. It was delicious with the side dishes or eaten plain — I kept reaching for more. If you're wondering whether to try black pork in Aewol, this was satisfying.

Kelp rice
The kelp rice that came with it was impressive too. It had a subtle sea aroma different from regular steamed rice, and it was light yet paired really well with the meat. After the richness of the samgyeopsal, a bite of kelp rice felt like a clean finish, making the meal even more enjoyable. It felt like a special dish you can only really experience in Jeju.

Kimchi jjigae
The kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) had a spicy kick along with deep savory flavor. It wasn't too spicy, so anyone could enjoy it easily, and it paired perfectly with the samgyeopsal. The broth was rich too, so it went well with rice, and I kept going back for more spoonfuls until the very end.

Is it good to visit with kids?
We visited with our child, and they even brought out seaweed just for kids, which felt like a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere was comfortable for families, and with the friendly staff on top of that, it made for an even better meal. If you're looking for good black pork in Aewol, Jeju, I'd recommend Nopo Dwaeji Aewol for a satisfying meal from the lunch special to the charcoal grilling. It's a spot in Aewol I'd love to visit again next time I'm back in Jeju.
