I was trying to decide where to have lunch near Munjeong Station, and I wanted something other than the same old everyday menu. I found a high-quality, neat little rice restaurant where I could eat something really filling, feel nourished, and get a change of mood too!

Can you skip the wait at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong by arriving at the 11am opening?
I walked into Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong (고메무이 송파문정) right at the 11am opening, and luckily there was a seat, so I could order straight away. I like pot rice (solbap, rice cooked in an individual pot) in general, so I came with high hopes. This is the Munjeong Station lunch hotspot that fills up the moment it opens!
I'd heard the waits here are huge, so as soon as I finished my morning work I hurried over to arrive at the 11am opening! Luckily there was a seat and I could order right away!

Is Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong good for eating alone?
Every dish at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong comes as a neat single-person set meal, so it was great for visiting alone. The overall atmosphere was clean and tidy, and for a solo diner the single-person set format was the most appealing thing!

There were people actually eating alone, and the seating is varied and comfortable, so it was easy to focus on the meal!

What comes in the eel pot rice and tonkatsu set?
What I ordered at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong this time was the "eel pot rice and tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) set."

It wasn't just the main pot rice. Every side dish served alongside was made with as much care and quality as the main dish!

Eel pot rice: generous, glossy eel with no fishy taste
What stood out in Gome Mui's eel pot rice was the amount and the gloss of the eel. The sauce had soaked in well, and with one bite the salty-sweet sauce blended with the eel, so good together with the rice.
The thick eel was soaked through with the special sauce, deeply and moistly. There was no fishy smell at all, just a soft texture that melted in my mouth, haha.

Finishing with eel broth ochazuke
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong also serves eel broth with the eel pot rice. After eating a good part of the rice, I poured the broth over it and finished ochazuke (rice with broth poured over) style, clean and light, and I felt healthier!

I could see why office workers at lunchtime wait in line for this Japanese restaurant in Munjeong!

It felt less like simply eating a meal and more like enjoying a neat, well-finished table!

The set's tonkatsu and side dishes
The eel pot rice was tasty enough, but the crispy fried tonkatsu in the set was good too, with a nice balance of crust and moist meat, perfect as a little palate cleanser alongside!
A bite of soft eel pot rice, a bite of crispy, savory tonkatsu, going back and forth, I ended up pleasantly full!

The side dishes in the set were neat one by one, too, so it felt like care went into more than the main dish. I think that kind of attention to detail is why so many people seek out Gome Mui as their Munjeong Japanese spot.

What time does the lunch line start at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong?
Right after the 11am weekday opening it was relatively quiet, but after 11:30 office workers from nearby poured in and Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong filled up in no time. I visited right after 11am, and once 11:30 passed, workers from the area started flooding in for lunch!

The place was packed in an instant and a long line formed outside! Quite a lot of people waited and came in anyway, and I thought, "This is a real good restaurant."

They give up part of their precious lunch break and gladly accept the wait to eat here!! That's proof of a real good restaurant, haha.

So if you plan to visit Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong at lunchtime, I recommend going a bit early!

Next time: the steak pot rice
I completely fell for the eel pot rice this time, but the steak pot rice the next table was eating looked amazing too! So next time I'm in Munjeong, I've decided I'll definitely come back for an opening run and have the steak pot rice!

Who Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is best for
- People who want a neat pot rice meal
- Office workers who need a filling meal
- People who want to eat comfortably alone
If you're wondering where to have lunch near Munjeong Station, I recommend Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong!
