Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Moran Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, where staff grill aged pork belly at your table. On a return visit with a companion, the writer had 2 servings of pork belly that arrived with gram-weight stickers, plus extra pork neck. They ate it with Andes salt, Himalayan pink salt, meljeot (salted anchovy sauce), wasabi, grilled kimchi and pickled chili peppers. Verdict: Mat Chandeul Moran Branch is a long-popular Moran pork belly spot that is great for trying the meat many different ways.

Dandae-ogeori chicken spot with cheese nurungji chicken: Jangjakgun

Jangjakgun Main Branch (장작꾼 본점) is a wood-fired whole chicken restaurant on Sanseong-daero near Dandae-ogeori Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, where the chicken is roasted over real burning firewood rather than as a gimmick. Two women shared one cheese nurungji (crispy scorched rice) whole chicken with draft beer; even the breast meat was more tender than samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), and the cheese nurungji was so nutty and crisp that they ordered another beer. Jangjakgun Main Branch fills up with a waiting line even at off-peak hours, so arriving early is the way to get a table.
