I've been eating at way too many Suwon restaurants lately~ so I suddenly met up with my friend Strawberry (딸기양) for the first time in a while and revisited Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch (맛찬들왕소금구이 모란점), a Moran favorite. Is there anyone in Moran who doesn't know Mat Chandeul? Great combinations plus quality meat.. a no-fail flavor. Let's go eat!

Mat Chandeul Moran Branch: location and opening hours
Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch is on the 1st floor of the Vision Building, 16-7 Dunchon-daero 101beon-gil, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, South Korea, and it's open every day from noon to 11 p.m.
Why Mat Chandeul is a trusted pork belly spot in Moran

I don't know exactly when Mat Chandeul opened in Moran, but when I first came it was already well established and packed with customers. That was quite a long time ago, and it's still jam-packed now, so it really is a Moran pork belly spot. I've come to eat here with people so many times because it's just that good.

Every time I come to Mat Chandeul I think the same thing: you can see the meat aging right there, which makes it feel even more trustworthy.

When you order meat, it's weighed in grams and comes with a weight sticker on the dish, just like at a butcher shop. Trust level: sky high~!

Do the staff grill the pork belly at Mat Chandeul?
Yes! At Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch, a staff member grills and cuts the pork belly for you, and they even grind Andes salt and Himalayan pink salt right in front of you. Isn't the meat supposed to be the star at a BBQ place?

The pork belly I ordered has finally arrived! You can tell just by looking how fresh it is. And I'm about to eat this fresh, beautiful meat~!!! I can't help but dance my shoulders, wondering how good it'll be.

They ground Andes salt and Himalayan pink salt right in front of us and put it on our individual plates. We're waiting for the grill to heat up to the right temperature. I'm really hungry, you know~ please start grilling..
Finally, it lands on the grill! Isn't that sizzle the best sound?

Another plus at Mat Chandeul: the staff grill the meat with professional skill!

So here I am, just staring and waiting for the meat to finish cooking.... I'm hungry, so hungry.. grilling time is so long... The outside is only just cooked, and the staff member is already slicing the meat so prettily.

They cut it so nicely... Just watching is torture every single time. I want to eat already, please hurry up and cook..
How was the doenjang stew that comes with the set?

The doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean paste stew), which we chose from the Mat Chandeul set, came out before the meat. It was generously packed and really good. Not eating it with rice would be absurd. No Korean can resist this combo.
While we were eating the stew, the meat was finally done. They hand you the first bite as a ready-made wrap, which is so easy to eat. By making it for you, they're showing you the best combination.

Best ways to eat Mat Chandeul pork belly
The pork belly at Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch can be enjoyed many ways: grilled kimchi, gochujang-pickled peppers (gochujang jangajji), perilla leaf wraps, salt, meljeot and wasabi. Now let's eat happily and deliciously.

Grilled kimchi, pork belly and pickled chili pepper
Put pork belly on well-grilled kimchi, then top it with pickled peppers. Guess how it tastes~ Ahh~~ My mouth is watering even as I talk about it! No Korean could dislike this flavor.

Pork belly in a perilla leaf wrap
It's so good that I'll have more. This time I'll make a wrap with my favorite perilla leaf~ and pile on everything I like. Open wide, "kwang!", and stuff it all in. That taste is something else.

Andes salt and Himalayan pink salt
Now let's dip it in salt and eat it clean. To really taste the meat, a dip in salt is the best~

Pork belly with meljeot (salted anchovy sauce)
This time I'll dip it in meljeot (salted anchovy sauce). The flavor just overflows~ I'm so happy that I can enjoy pork belly in so many ways.

Pork belly with wasabi
Hahaha, this time it's wasabi~ And how clean and tasty is this one.... No wonder foreigners have figured out how good pork belly is... I'd honestly like to keep this one to ourselves.
Extra pork neck and rice cakes after 2 servings of pork belly
As expected, 2 servings of pork belly wasn't nearly enough, so we ordered extra pork neck (moksal) at Mat Chandeul. And while waiting for the pork neck to cook.... we have to eat something else.

This time, rice cakes (tteok) haha. I mean, they're not usually this good, but somehow anything on the grill becomes delicious, right? Dip it in salt and, why is this so good haha. Must be the carbs.
The pork neck is done too. It's the grand finale of the party!!

Unlike the flavor and texture of pork belly, the pork neck was juicy, bursting with every bite, and tender.

Cleared the pork neck in no time~ Every time I think the same thing: to really enjoy Mat Chandeul to the fullest, I need to work hard and earn money first. Will the day come when I can order as much as I want without worrying about money? Then let's work hard to eat tasty meat~ When you need energy, Mat Chandeul!!!
