Dongtan Station jjimdak restaurant, ₩35,000 for two: Dream Samgyetang

Dream Samgyetang is a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and Korean restorative-food restaurant on the 2nd floor of the KTX Jungang Park View building at Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After two earlier visits for samgyetang, this time the order was jjimdak (braised soy-sauce chicken) at 35,000 won, shared by two people with sweet soy-sauce seasoning and generous glass noodles, potatoes and rice cakes included as standard. The jjimdak at Dream Samgyetang was filling enough without an extra noodle order, making it worth a return visit for more than just samgyetang.

Yongin Giheung noodle course for two with 180g sirloin: Jangwongap

Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on Gomae-ro in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Two of us ordered the chadol (beef brisket) minari-wrap shabu kalguksu with 180g of extra sirloin and the Jochiwon peach bibim mandu (spicy mixed dumplings), then finished with complimentary perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice and a misugaru (roasted grain powder) slush. With shabu, noodles and fried rice arriving in order, Jangwongap Kalguksu really does feel like a kalguksu omakase.
