Dongtan Station jjimdak restaurant, ₩35,000 for two: Dream Samgyetang

Dream Samgyetang at Dongtan Station: jjimdak instead of samgyetang this time
I went back to Dream Samgyetang, the place I visited last time for some body-boosting food around jungbok (the middle dog day of summer). It's right by Dongtan Station so it's easy to get to, and of course parking is available in the building.
Last time I had the samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), which had a rich broth and tender chicken — I was pretty satisfied. I kept thinking about that samgyetang, so on the last dog day of summer I even ordered it for delivery from Dream Samgyetang for another round of body care, haha.
This time I wanted to try something different, so I went back and ordered jjimdak instead of samgyetang!
Inside Dream Samgyetang and its self bar
Dream Samgyetang, on the 2nd floor of the KTX Jungang Park View building at Dongtan Station, has a really spacious interior. There's plenty of group seating too, so I'd recommend it for work dinners.
We came around 8pm for a late dinner that day, so it was a bit quiet.
The self bar is kept clean too, and you can refill any side dishes you're running low on there.
How much is the jjimdak? Price and set menu
The jjimdak I ordered this time was ₩35,000. We ate it between two people, and the portion was reasonably generous — plus it came with not just chicken but also glass noodles, potatoes, and rice cakes evenly mixed in, so we didn't even need to add extra noodles, haha. Worth keeping in mind.
The other set menu prices were reasonable too. Seafood pajeon (pancake) + boneless chicken feet + 1 bottle of ginseng wine for ₩33,000... that's really solid value.
Two free glasses of ginseng wine and house-made kimchi
Two glasses of ginseng wine come out as a free service before the meal, which gave me the feeling of properly restoring my energy at a real samgyetang place near Dongtan Station — it made me strangely happy, haha.
The basic side dishes were also prepared, and just like when I had the samgyetang, I noticed this place's kimchi is quite good. They said the kimchi is homemade, and it paired well with a sweet-sauced dish like jjimdak, cutting through the sweetness now and then.
What does Dream Samgyetang's jjimdak taste like? A sweet soy-sauce base
About 15 to 20 minutes later, the jjimdak was ready. The sauce is a sweet soy-sauce-based flavor.
Rather than being too salty or strong, it was closer to a sweet, savory soy sauce, and the sauce soaked well into the chicken, glass noodles, and potatoes, making it good to eat with rice too.
There was fun in picking through the fluffy, well-cooked potatoes and chewy rice cakes, haha.
Do you need to order extra glass noodles?
What I especially liked was the glass noodles. I really love the noodles in jjimdak, so at first I was planning to add an extra serving, but once the jjimdak actually arrived, the amount of noodles included as standard was already quite generous.
It was good enough that you don't really need to add extra noodles, and since they were soaked in the sweet soy sauce, they were personally what I reached for the most.
The chicken was also cooked tender with no gamey smell, melting in the mouth.
The meat wasn't tough and came off the bone easily, so it was comfortable to eat, and the sauce soaked all the way through, so it was delicious right to the last bite!
Is Dream Samgyetang worth a return visit?
At first I had a strong impression of this place as a samgyetang specialist, so I was curious how the jjimdak would be, but trying it myself, it was more satisfying than expected. Last time I had samgyetang for body care and this time jjimdak — since the two dishes feel completely different, I liked that revisiting doesn't get boring.
At ₩35,000, it was a reasonably generous portion for two, and with glass noodles, potatoes, and rice cakes all included as standard in good amounts, it was great as a hearty dinner. If you're looking for a good samgyetang or body-care food spot near Dongtan Station, I'd really recommend Dream Samgyetang.
