Kalguksu taste-off by Hallym Dongtan hospital: family meal at Seonbi

Seonbi Kalguksu Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital branch is a handmade-noodle Korean restaurant on Samseong 1-ro in Dongtan, Hwaseong, near Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital. On a family meal out, the blogger filled up at the free-refill self-serve bibimbap (mixed rice) bar while waiting, then shared Jeonju-style kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), herbal chicken kalguksu and Seonbi meat dumplings. She preferred the herbal chicken kalguksu and her husband the Jeonju-style. With parking support and baby chairs, Seonbi Kalguksu is an easy choice for a family meal with kids.

Dongtan Station hair salon root straightening + side bangs: Juno Hair

Juno Hair Dongtan SRT Station Branch is a large hair salon on the 2nd floor of Lotte Front Castle Building B, near Exit 2 of Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer had root straightening from designer Chae-a to fix kinked, curly new growth, had the bangs rolled with a loop to keep side-bang volume, and finished with a shampoo in the VIP shampoo room with massage chairs. Juno Hair Dongtan SRT Station Branch is a useful reference if you want curly roots straightened without ending up with flat bangs.

Siheung Korean BBQ lunch with doenjang hot pot and bone soup: Hamdon

Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Jungsimsangga shopping district of Jeongwang-dong, Siheung. On a weekend lunch, the writer ordered the lunch BBQ set for 2 (special pork neck, doenjang jeongol soybean paste hot pot and rice) plus a 6,000-won side of bone soup, and was surprised by the thick, juicy pork neck grilled by staff, the meat-packed doenjang jeongol and the amount of meat in the bone soup. Both the meat and the stews at Hamdon were delicious, and it is an easy spot for a family meal with kids.

Suwon open-kitchen chicken with rice cake add-on: Haenggung Jangjak

Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak (행궁장작한방통닭) is an old-style whole chicken restaurant on Haenggung-ro in central Haenggung-dong, Suwon, roasting its chicken over oak wood. On a Haenggung-dong outing, the blogger ordered the herbal wood-fired chicken with a rice cake add-on and draft beer, and loved the chewy skin, juicy meat and sticky glutinous rice at the bottom of the plate. Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak is a Suwon chicken spot that could change the mind of anyone who only eats fried chicken.

Suwon katsu spot, butter chicken curry split into 3 bowls: Gyewondang

Gyewondang Ingye Branch (계원당 인계점) is a retro-style katsu (breaded cutlet) restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, near City Hall Station. Over a weekend lunch, a family of three (mom, dad and child) ate Gyewon chicken katsu, handmade pork loin katsu, butter chicken curry and 88's yangnyeom chicken (Korean sweet-spicy fried chicken), and the owner thoughtfully pre-divided the curry and soup into three bowls. With crispy batter, juicy meat and unlimited soda for ₩900, Gyewondang Ingye Branch is a family restaurant worth coming back to.

Suwon fish restaurant, Jeju-worthy mackerel sushi: Godeungeo

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled fish and raw fish on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. After loving the grilled fish and gochujang bulgogi on an earlier visit, the writer returned to finally try the mackerel sushi, along with grilled Spanish mackerel for the child and the gochujang bulgogi that comes as a side dish. Even with high standards set by mackerel sashimi in Jeju, the writer was won over by the non-fishy mackerel sushi at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda and plans to order the mackerel sashimi next time.

Suwon shabu-shabu with a 5-year-old and kids' zone CCTV: Sodamchon

Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch (소담촌 수원정자점) is a spring roll shabu-shabu restaurant on the 4th floor of the Gyeongseong Building on Jeongjacheon-ro, Jangan-gu, Suwon. With a 5-year-old daughter, the family ordered spring roll shabu for 2 plus extra pork chuck, enjoyed the self-bar, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), porridge and the dessert café, and the parents ate at ease thanks to a cinema kids' zone they could watch on CCTV from the table. Since only children of elementary school age and up count as a full order, Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch is a satisfying family restaurant in Suwon for parents with preschoolers.

Suwon Station croffle café with parking: syrup plain croffle at Tteum

Tteum Café by Oneplay Suwon Station is a dessert café in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, connected to a Lady Furniture showroom. During the vacation season, the writer ordered two Milano iced Americanos and a plain croffle at Tteum Café and ate them at the showroom's display dining table and sofa seats. The new officetel's underground garage offers 30 free minutes plus 1 hour of parking support for café customers, so driving in was easy. Tteum Café by Oneplay Suwon Station is a three-in-one stop for coffee, dessert and furniture browsing.
