Abalone claypot rice with seaweed soup in Sanbon: Dongyang Sotbap
In short
Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon (동양솥밥 산본점) is a claypot rice (sotbap) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Baekun Building near Sanbon Station in Gunpo, Gyeonggi. The writer visited around 2 p.m. with her mom and ordered steak claypot rice (₩15,900), Wando abalone claypot rice (₩16,900) with seaweed soup instead of scorched-rice soup (+₩2,000), and honey guobaorou (crispy sweet-and-sour pork, ₩5,900). Both claypot rice dishes were good, but the abalone one was the favorite, and Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is a great choice for a meal with your parents.

We've arrived at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon, a top claypot rice spot near Sanbon Station in Gunpo!

Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is on the 2nd floor of the Baekun Building.

Up the stairs and we're at the front of the shop! It looked clean from the outside, too!

All the different claypot rice dishes at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon 😍

Does Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon have a break time?
Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon has no break time, so you can eat there in the afternoon even after lunch hour is over. Here's the inside of the restaurant~

We went around 2 p.m., and even though lunchtime was over, people kept coming in nonstop! No break time, so 👍🏻
Every table has a tablet, and you order on it and prepay~ It also shows you how to eat the food at its best 👍🏻

At Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon, the scorched rice (nurungji) comes separately, and you eat it like a soup, apparently.

Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon menu and prices
What we ordered at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon was the steak claypot rice for ₩15,900, the Wando abalone claypot rice for ₩16,900, and the honey kkwabaerou (sweet fried pork) for ₩5,900. You can check the menu on the tablet too, but each table also has a menu board, which was handy.

- Steak claypot rice ₩15,900
- Wando abalone claypot rice ₩16,900
- (Swap scorched rice for seaweed soup +₩2,000)
- Honey kkwabaerou ₩5,900
Scorched rice comes by default, but you can swap it for seaweed soup for an extra ₩2,000. They cook the claypot rice fresh once you order, so it takes a little while!

What's at the self bar at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon?
The self bar at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon has extra side dishes and water, and the sides are dried radish strips, sweet soy-braised beans and kimchi. While waiting I looked around the inside, and there were also tissues, wet wipes and disposable aprons.

Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is a shop with a water purification filter installed, apparently! Claypot rice cooked with clean water 😍

I was busy watching the claypot rice being cooked in the back when our food came out.

How does the steak claypot rice taste?
The steak claypot rice (₩15,900) at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is piled with flank steak (bucheosal) and eggs. 🍖 I'm a meat lover, so I picked the steak claypot rice!!! The look of it 👍🏻
Packed with flank steak and eggs 😍 I liked how full of protein it was.

There's sauce underneath, so I stirred it well, and a bite together with the meat was delicious.

Eating the scorched rice that came with it like a soup was great too 👍🏻

Wando abalone claypot rice, swapped to seaweed soup
The Wando abalone claypot rice (₩16,900) was picked by my mom, who doesn't like meat, and since she loves seaweed soup (miyeokguk), we swapped the scorched rice for seaweed soup (+₩2,000). It's full of abalone and absolutely loaded with shiitake mushrooms.
There's soy sauce already in it, so I mixed it up in a few swipes,

and a bite with the abalone was so tender 😍 It was really good.
The seaweed soup had dried shrimp in it, plenty of seaweed, and the broth was delicious!

How big is the side dish, honey kkwabaerou?
I ordered the honey kkwabaerou (₩5,900) at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon as a side, and it comes with 3 pieces.

Packed with meat inside 👍🏻 It tasted good and was just the right amount for a side.
Is it a good Sanbon Station restaurant for going with your parents?
Both the steak claypot rice and the abalone claypot rice I ordered at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon were delicious, and I loved how full of steak and abalone they were! Both are tasty, but personally I liked the abalone claypot rice more.
It's a good restaurant to come to with your parents, and I saw lots of people bringing theirs! My mom, who came with me, was happy with it too~ If you're looking for a good restaurant near Sanbon Station, or a place to eat with your parents, stop by Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon~
