In short
Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch is a Korean set-meal restaurant near Daemyeong Station in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu, serving spicy stir-fried pork, bulgogi and stews as a full table spread. The writer ordered the char-grilled spicy pork set, the Dongi bulgogi set, a mini tasting portion of tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and the Little Explorer tangsuyuk set for children aged 3 to 7, then added five-grain rice and a fried egg from the self-bar. Eating out these days isn't cheap, even for one meal, so I went looking for somewhere that serves a clean, proper set meal that's also good to eat with a kid — and ended up at Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch.
Cafe Dongi sounds like a café from the name, but it's actually a Korean restaurant serving jeyuk-bokkeum (stir-fried spicy pork), bulgogi, jjigae (stew), and tangsuyuk as full Korean set meals. What's nice is that besides the adult menu, they also have a Little Explorer set for kids, which made it a solid pick for a family meal out.
This time we ordered a good spread: ✔ char-grilled spicy pork set ✔ Dongi bulgogi set ✔ mini tasting-size tangsuyuk ✔ Little Explorer tangsuyuk set.

What a Korean set meal at Cafe Dongi looks like
The nice thing about Cafe Dongi is that even ordering just one menu item feels like a full, proper meal. Ordering a bunch of dishes to share is nice too, but it was also convenient that everyone could just pick their own dish and get their own full set.

The menu ranges from jeyuk and bulgogi to jjigae, curry, and bibimbap varieties, so it wouldn't be hard to find something for everyone even if the family's tastes differ.
Char-grilled spicy pork set (jikhwa jeyuk)

First up is the char-grilled spicy pork set, which I'd been looking forward to.

Jeyuk-bokkeum is best eaten with rice, of course — the smoky, char-grilled pork with its sweet-spicy sauce made the rice disappear fast.

Instead of just a plate of pork, it comes as a full Korean-set-style spread, which made it feel a lot more substantial.

The portion of meat is generous too, so it's a good pick when you want a filling meal. If you're already a fan of jeyuk-bokkeum, this is the first thing I'd recommend at Cafe Dongi.
Dongi bulgogi set

If you're not really into spicy food, the Dongi bulgogi set is a good option too.

It's a sweet, savory bulgogi with a familiar flavor that pairs well with rice.

It's not sharply spicy, so it's an easy order for a family visit, and it also worked well ordering one jeyuk and one bulgogi to take turns eating from each.
Mini tangsuyuk, the tasting-size sweet and sour pork

If you feel like the set meal alone isn't quite enough, I'd recommend adding tangsuyuk as a side. We ordered the mini tasting-size tangsuyuk.

A full plate of tangsuyuk as a main can feel like a lot, but having a tasting-size option made it perfect to pair alongside the set meals.

It's good to share with a kid, and adults can also just pick at it between bites of the main meal. It's a great add-on when you want to taste multiple things.
The kids' menu: Little Explorer tangsuyuk set for ages 3–7

If you're visiting with a kid, the Little Explorer set is definitely worth checking out. Cafe Dongi has a separate kids' set meal for ages 3 to 7, with a choice between bulgogi and tangsuyuk.

We ordered the Little Explorer tangsuyuk set. It was much easier having a dedicated set for our kid from the start, rather than portioning out from the adults' dishes. Most of all, my kid just loved getting their very own set meal.
The self-bar: five-grain rice, fried eggs and dessert

One reason Cafe Dongi comes up often as a good-value Korean restaurant is the self-bar setup.

You can help yourself to extra five-grain rice and fried eggs, which is great for anyone with a bigger appetite.
The set meal alone is already filling, but being able to add rice or a fried egg on top made it feel like a properly complete meal. Having a little something extra to finish off the meal was a nice touch too.
If you're looking for a good-value Korean set meal restaurant near Daemyeong Station or Seobu Bus Terminal that's also easy to visit with kids, give Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch a try.
